Japan Trip (13) - Price of Prayer!

Dec 31, 2012 00:46

Just left Yokohama. Our hotel was in the middle of Chinatown, so it was fascinating to see the hybrid Chinese- Japanese street.

And Hello Kitty is the protective lion in front of the shop. so cool

Pandamania reigns supreme as every other shop sells panda related items. Black n white overkill!

We stopped at the Chinese temple devoted to Guan Gong - proprietary saint for overseas Chinese businessmen. Interesting the marriage of cultures.

Praying to Guan Gong requires you to throw in a coin into a traditional Jap donation box first.
And there's a vending machine to buy joss sticks n paper.
Guan Gong even provides Japanese style amulets. I got one for my Daddy cos i know he is more likely to believe Guan Gong has more power than a Japanese shrine (no offense to the Japanese though).

In fact, Guan Gong amulets are more expensive than the Jap temples. Is price a symbol of their power?

Then the most powerful must be Guan Yin, her amulet is 50% more ex than Guan Gong. N her one amulet does everything, no need multiple ones like the other gods n temples!
