Costumes from Journey PS3, aka the most beautiful thing I've seen since Myst 5's ending credits rolled. Made & worn by crimsontriforce + shari_rvek with lots of love, foam rubber, acrylic paints and two flower pots. Pics by Skull-the-kid!

Either someone once said that life's a series of broken taboos or I'm saying it now. Looking back on old forum threads about what's acceptable in cosplay and what's not, I can see my young self scoffing at genderbends, instants, rushed costumes... ...costumes of stuff that isn't even out yet. *nervous cough* While I've come to see why one would genderbend etc., this rush to be the first to cosplay the newest fads, so soon that they aren't even fads yet, so soon that they aren't even OUT yet, always felt silly to me. And yet here we are. There is a slight difference, though: when you're cosplaying a character that you haven't played/read/seen yet, you're devoting time and money to the unknoooown. What if the character is not interesting? What if the game sucks? What if this big blue badass lion turns out to be a caring emo kid with self-esteem issues? What if the spoiled, loved daughter of these two awesome characters grows up to be a psycho? This dancing dude seems cool, but is he one of the good guys? I wouldn't risk my limited cosplay opportunities: if it's tempting, it can wait until I'm 100% sure that it's worth the effort.
But Journey? What could possibly go wrong with it? The artistic direction is flawless and would be worth the game's price alone. That isn't going to change in the finished product - if nothing else, I fully expect to be amazed at every turn. The characters haven't got much of a characterization afaik; what they do have is an OUTSTANDINGLY BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER DESIGN which I wanted to make come to life. Ached to, even. It's elegant, it's iconic (conic, too, which is always a plus since my life apparently revolves around road cones), it's mesmerizing. And with unexpected help by Shari, make it come to life we did!

What is this? Preparations for a Flower cosplay? How do you even cosplay Flower?

...no, it's Journey! We wear flower pots now. Flower pots are cool. And the creatures look like they're just a flower pot and a scrap of rubber foam taller than the average human.

Keepers of the Slate. Or something. Look, they were so cool on those chairs and I maintain that this game's the closest I've seen to Uru, thematically, so. :|

Lucca Comics was my best bet for cool scenery that could pass as part of the game. A desert it ain't, but it's an old town with plenty of walls and assorted ruins. The convention spans throughout the whole town, allowing for great pictures on its walls and in its tiny streets.
The costumes were well-received by the convention goers, creating small croweds of photographers whenever someone stopped us to ask for a picture. I hadn't foreseen that since the costumes are so simple (as opposed to the many - and wonderfully executed - lolitas and JRPG characters that populated the convention), but the flower pots, the flower pots did the trick! We were a head taller than most people and that must've made an impression.
Lots of people also asked who or what we were and we had the perfect chance to spam the game :D We should've made business cards! Those who didn't ask, on the other hand, went creative with their wild guessing. According to my dear partner's list, we got:
- Teletubbies (HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK)
- no, not Teletubbies, they look more like the Twili people (no we don't)
- Elves (because of the ears? Don't we look more like hooded cats or something?)
- Wizards (ok, I get that)
- Heartless (...really.)
- Queens (that's me jinxing it. No matter the costume, Summoner, Jedi or frakkin actual princess in a VERY CONVINCING disguise, I always get 'queen' or 'princess'. Always.)
- the things from that game that's unclear what it's about (this one might've been on the right track!)
- child-eating monsters (LADY, WE'RE THE HELLO KITTIES OF THE PS3 IF YOU HADN'T NOTICED. NO MOUTHS. YOUR KID'S SAFE)
- Peter Pans in Sherwood (I get being drunk and mixing up Robin Hood and Peter Pan, but how did the huge red capes factor in...?)

Exploring an obelisk

This place. I'd seen it last year and I knew it would've been perfect for these costumes. it's so explorable! So layered! So pretty!

This, on the other hand, was an unexpected find on our way back to the more crowded parts of town. How beautiful is it?

Outside the city walls.

Wednesday morning in Pisa, a couple of hours before leaving. I think that we'd gotten the hang of how to make these costumes work in a composition (pose at different heights, angles and distance whenever possible, try to look like you're interacting, etc), too bad that they were all wrinkled after the actual convention! Of course the only appropriate colours were inside my cousin's house. Ah well, at least we have one yellow-brown-ish shot of sorts.

GREETINGS FROM BEAUTIFUL TUSCANY XDDDDDDDDDDDD That's it for now! This was the basic version, with short scarves and little to no yellow decorations on the triangles. Since, you know, we haven't begun our journey yet. I'll improve mine at least once I've finished the game!

The team + photographer say goodbye! See you in a vast desert, with a glowing mountain looming in the distance...
