Words

Sometimes I play with words. Roll them around in my mouth to determine the taste of them, the texture on my tongue.

Some words are soft, boring in their ordinary feel to them.

Some words are like a good wine, rich and intoxicating in the way they tug at your mind, whispering quiet seduction into an unprepared imagination.

Others are sharp, slicing into the soul, bleeding out the emotions hidden deep within and exposing dark secrets to the light of day.

Some words have bite. Digging claws into the mind, forcing you to think, to feel, to live.

I find my pallet is for the words that are whiskey dark, smokey with fear and lust. The kind of words that make shivers run down your spine as anticipation makes your hands tremble.

It's those words I search for. I toy with other words, play with them, finding the flavor, the texture, the emotions they evoke. My heart though, she belongs to the whiskey and smoke, the fear-drenched longing, the promise-laden anticipation of those words that make you shiver and sigh, laugh and cry....the words that take away your breath and own your soul.
