[Devyn] Even Angels Fall {D's Death FINALE}

Aug 01, 2007 20:47

OOC I just wanted to get this posted up, so I wouldn't lose the write up. I'll alter and change it later, when I'm a bit more on the creative side for D's death, but right now, it's just something I'm not really willing to play with.

=======

The knowledge of what she must do grounds her. She cannot make a promise she knows she will not keep. Eyes that are a calm crystalline blue meet the Moor's chocolate brown ones, "A pen and paper please, Simon is too far away, so I will write a letter."

The Justice produces both and she jots a quick note. I wish I could see you just once. But I cannot. If I put this off for you to get here my entire pack will die, and that is a level of selfish I am not willing to give into.

The door creaks open and The Slayer steps back into the room, glancing at Dominion. The Monster pulls a silver chain from her neck, and a ring from her thumb, Crystalline blue meets Iridescent green, "Take these to Simon." A pocket watch strung on a rosary comes from her pocket, "And this to Audra?" Her calm waivers for a moment and a deeply ingrained sorrow briefly floods her voice, "Please..."

He accepts them in an upturned hand, fingers curling around them, and nods once, "I'll deliver them myself."

The Spaniard sighs.

It hurts. The realization that she could have walked away. But walking away would have meant breaking an oath. Something she could not do. Walking away meant never seeing Him again, or dying by his hand when it wasn't her choice. This way it is. I'm sorry, Daddy.

========

The door flings open with a crash, shattering to pieces as it meets the wall, and he enters. His anger and rage rides through her system, like a drug it ignites her own passion and she stomps coldly on it.

She steps to meet him, the calm against the storm.

Her voice asserts and authority few have ever heard. "Fane. That's enough." He is breathing heavily, blood dripping from his fangs, his teeth grinding. She crosses her arms, a low warning growl issuing from her throat, "Curb it. Now."

"This. Is. Calm."

The warning turns into a menacing growl echoing deep in her chest, "Calmer."

She waits a moment, and quietly and rapidly explains. "I was trying to leave the Dragons. To leave the fangs, and go Crone. Utterly and completely. This is my trial. They had the courtesy to allow me to see you before I submit myself to my own choice of punishment."

"I felt your heart. I know your mind, Mother."

"I expect you to be courteous, at least. You felt my heart because it broke when I realized I would not be able to go. They offered me the right to be assigned a handler, to uphold the old agreements. And I rejected it. I don't follow them anymore. I don't believe in them anymore, and I haven't for some time."

"It wasn't necessary. Only their progression toward Transcendence."

A half smile curves her lips, "I don't want transcendence, Fane. I want to follow my old faiths. That what I grew up with. I don't want a path I was forced down by a grandsire I hate."

"I'll eat his heart for you."

"Loupe is the best Grandmaster there is for you and the pack. Heed her well. Xavier and Lau both have been utterly fair. And Dom and Brogan have been courteous and argued all sides. Don't make this worse."

His fists clench tightly and blood begins to drip. She shoves the automatic concern to the darkest corners of her mind and touches his face gently, "Take care of my girls?"

"For what? what will you do? where will you go?"

"I won't live a life that I did not want. So I will die free." And I have proven my faith by my actions.

He seems to settle a bit as if seeing something the others can not, "I won't lose you. not to Them." the last word is a growl.

She steps back and away from him, "No you won't. Because I'm doing it myself. Not you. Not anyone. This is mine." Her gaze is steady, determined, and accepting. "Go. Mirela will frenzy, and Daciana. They are in a public place. Go, take them somewhere secure. And when you have had your time to mourn, seek Loupe."

His claws drag across his face, tearing it to shredded flesh and bone, "I am the Shepard of Transcendence." He backs out the door, "All else is dust and chaos."

After he is gone she sags against the wall. Something new sharpens her scent, an anger born of lies and frustration. Her eyes meet those of each person standing.

When did lying become so easy?

===========

Her voice is quiet, her eyes go to Brogan, "Come here." It isn't a question anymore, but a quiet order. He steps forward, standing before her. Her fingers lightly caress his face and she speaks in quiet latin, pitched only for his ears.

"I'm sorry. I love you." She stems the flood of sorrow, knowing what comes.

His voice is equally soft as she leans her forehead against his, "I know." There it stands. The confirmation she had known for months. He stopped loving me. Somewhere along the line I became too much of a burden. And that makes me hate him, just a little.

The confirmation hurts, and an ache completely and utterly foreign to her floods her and she can almost feel her heart break anew.

His voice is a gentle caress, "Are you ready?"

She nods, taking a moment to gently kiss him, a featherlight brush of lips across his forehead, "Just do it." The female part of her, the part that rages and screams at the betrayal, is laughing. Low mocking amusement echoes in her mind, twining with the sorrow and suppressed rage at the situation.

Heat rolls off of him all at once and she closes her eyes. The pain is agonizing, and the acrid scent of burning flesh fills the room as his arm buries itself to his elbow in her chest. She can feel his fingers wrap around her heart.

At least I know that from here on out, you'll always carry some small memory of me.

A soft gasp is all that escapes parted lips. She settles tightly against him, crimson tears making tracks down jaundiced yellow cheeks, and she rests her head against his shoulder. I love you, Kitten.

Sweet oblivion.
