"Why the hell do you want to go on shore leave to somewhere the average temperature is twenty below?!?" Guy demanded, leaning against the bar and glaring at Kyle.

"Why do you want to go to some resort that's just like any beach town on Earth?" Kyle returned, crossing his arms. "Xstirsix has some of the most beautiful, unique landscape in the universe. The buildings are carved from gemstones! The volcanic rivers are made of glass. And it's not like they expect you to go out in the twenty below weather; everything's connected."

"Like every space station or space ship we've been on," Guy said. "Who wants to breathe processed air when you can sit out in the sun with a cool drink and watch the girls go by?"

Kyle scowled. "Not everyone thinks laying around doing nothing makes for a fun vacation."

Guy rolled his eyes. "It's a vacation. You're supposed to relax and rest. That's the point."

"The point of a vacation is to do things you don't get to do normally."

"Like rest," Guy pointed out.

"Or spend time with your best friend!" Kyle shot back.

Guy raised his eyebrows. "We're together all the time."

Kyle shrugged and looked away. "Sure. On missions. Or running the bar, which we're doing practically every second we're actually on Oa. It'd be nice to just hang out sometimes."

"Wouldn't it be nicer to hang out in a five star hotel on a beach, just the two of us, than to be dragged all over the place by some tour guide with twenty other yahoos to ride herd on?" Guy asked.

Kyle still wouldn't meet his eyes. "It would be if it was actually going to be the two of us," he muttered.

Guy leaned forward. "What makes you think it wouldn't be?"

"Oh, come on," Kyle scoffed. "Like you're actually just going to watch the girls 'go by'. You'll have some woman on your arm by the end of the first day, and I'll end up wandering around by myself. Or, worse, playing third wheel, tagging along after you two."

Okay, that was not what he expected. It was on the tip of Guy's tongue to suggest that it'd be easy enough to find Kyle a honey of his own when the faint blush high on Kyle's cheeks registered and realization dawned: It wasn't that Kyle didn't want to be alone, it was that he didn't want to share Guy. Suddenly the fact that he'd suggested a vacation spot where everyone would be buttoned into a couple layers of clothing made a lot more sense.

Hell, why not? It wasn't like Kyle had been hit with the ugly stick, and Guy had had a couple of guys in his time. Mostly in college, but whatever, he'd had fun.

Guy sidled up next to Kyle, who was still glaring down at the top of the bar, arms crossed defensively over his chest. "Can we go to the resort if I promise there won't be anybody on my arm but you?"

Kyle snorted. "I don't think I'm your type."

"Hey, I can be flexible." Guy waggled his eyebrows. "Very flexible. "

Kyle snorted again, but there was a laugh in it this time, and the scowl had gone when he looked up at Guy. "It's fine, Guy. We can go to the resort; you don't have pimp yourself out for the sake of a vacation."

"That was not a negotiating tactic," Guy said, bumping Kyle's shoulder with his. "That was a genuine offer."

Skepticism rolled off of Kyle. "You've never been interested before."

Guy shrugged. "Never occurred to me to look at you like that before."

"And what, now that the idea's occurred, attraction has descended out of nowhere?" Kyle said sarcastically.

"Oh, for fuck's sake," Guy muttered. He grabbed Kyle, turned him around, pinned him against the bar, and kissed him.

Kyle made a startled sound against his mouth and froze, unresponsive, for a long moment. Guy kept kissing him and, slowly, Kyle softened against him, lips hesitently parting. Guy took full advantage, deepening the kiss and pressing their bodies close together. Kyle made a helpless sound and finally kissed back, his mouth going hungry and urgent. Guy found himself playing catch up, trying to match Kyle's heat.

When they broke apart, they were both breathless and hard. Guy was hard for Kyle, and okay, yeah, that was a little weird, but... Guy looked his partner over, took in the aroused flush, the kiss-swollen lips, the lean body and tousled hair and tentative smile. Yeah, it was all good. Guy smiled back.

~End~
