new smoke detector, budget stuff

May 19, 2010 08:13

Yesterday, just ten days before I will have lived here for 1 year, we got our smoke detector replaced. I could have done it myself, but waiting means the Strata paid for it. Anyway, new smoke detector!

For those of you going, "OMG, she waited to replace such an essential piece of safety equipment because of money?", I was never in danger of ( Read more... )

Okay, I promise that I will TRY not to be an evil influence. I swear. Here's hoping everyone brings totally crappy art to MW!

LOL. Your restraint is appreciated. :-P I'm hoping that my primary fandoms being comics fandoms or brand new and tiny fandoms will help. It's a lot easier to resist general SF&F art than current-fandom-obsession art. *g*

I actually do have $150 spending money alloted, but honestly, I'm expecting to spend at least half of this on (1) Super Hero Squad (why yes, I am hoping to make multiple Target/Toys 'R Us pilgrimmages again :-D ...if possible, also a Local Comic Shop visit, in case they have old two packs) and (2) a Kyle Rayner action figure.

Can we talk budget some time while you're here? Like, how you came up with the amounts you alot toward groceries, etc.

Absolutely! I love to babble about my spreadsheets, but most people look at me like a crazy person and get bored fast. It'll be fun to talk to someone similarly inclined. :-D

I like your daily spending allowance and I think I'd like to do the same for myself, but I've been a big FAIL at coming up with that amount.

To be honest, I originally came up with the $25/day number because I hadn't been budgeting at all and that was literally all the money I had left in my bank account after setting aside the monthly expenses. But it worked out so well, I kept it. I can talk about why it worked, anyway!

And maybe some ways to re-work my budget spreadsheet, which I re-made for 2010 and I hate it, but I'm not sure what the best way to fix it for my purposes might be. I love to be anal about my budget, and lawdy, I love talking with others who are the same. *g*

*grins* This sounds like fun to me! I'm wanting to re-work my fitness tracking spreadsheet, so maybe we can brainstorm that, too, since I know you have some tracking going on for the half-marathon.

Bring your running shoes (if you have them before the con)!

I totally will! Not new runners, of course. I expect those to cost in the neighbourhood of $80-$100, so it'll take me about a month to save up for them, and I only have 1 non-recovery day before MWC. *g* But I will bring my old, foam-coming-out-of-all-seams runners, because I want to keep up my workouts while I'm there.

I'm babbling. God, I cannot wait for MW. *G* One week from today you will be flying in!

Wheee! 167 hours until I leave for the airport. :-D

Def have time for some pilgrammages. A2 has a most excellent comic shop that we can hit before we head out to Lansing on Thursday morning. And your plane doesn't depart until 7pm, yes? So you don't have to be at the airport until 5? That gives us more time for shopping.

Poor Keely. We will either make her insane with our spreadsheet talk, or she'll come away form the con with own spreadsheets. *g* Heee!

Sweet! All of this sounds excellent. :-D You must promise to tell me if I wear out your tolerance for said pilgrammages, though, 'cause otherwise I'll just keep going and going. *g*

LOL. The spreadsheets, they are contagious. I've got two of my friends doing them now, though in much less obsessive ways than me. *g*

(95 hours until I leave for the airport!)
