Fic Progress: status update

Nov 23, 2007 14:18

I've been posting a lot lately, haven't I? For some reason, I feel vaguely embarrassed about that. Like I'm attention-seeking or something. And while I confess I love getting comments and e-mail, mostly I've just had a lot of enthusiasm to share. Here's hoping you aren't all getting sick of me. *g*

Anyway, another plot bunny update. I got the NCIS "holiday" response written and posted, so that's off my plate. The Third Person Steve POV PWP is written and in beta. That could be fast or very slow, depending on whether or not I succeeded in writing a good Steve voice.

The bonding fic is going really well now. I feel like I had to get warmed up and that took a few pages, but now I'm chugging right along. I'm about a 1/3 of the way through it and am just about to get into the part of it that starts actively developing the Steve/Tony part of the plot. Of course, I have to go back and fill in an action scene, but I don't want to disrupt the rhythm I have going, so I might leave that until after I get to the end of the story.

A fic I read in another fandom is really making me want to write genderswitch!Tony again, but almost every other fic on my plate is a higher priority right now. :-( Still, it might get written while I'm working on 2.0verse, because that one is going to take a long time and I always end up writing shorter stories while I work on an epic.

I'm tempted to pick an ncis_tinsel prompt now and bang out something short and quick, just to get that done and off my plate, but I also don't want to distract myself from the bonding fic again. I've been distracted from it a lot. I keep going back and forth on this.

Similarly, I feel like I should start my ncis_flashfic Amnesty story and my seasonalmarvels gift fics now, because I want to make sure I have enough time to get them done. But I'm making myself wait. I still have lots of time for both and I don't want too many stories going at once.

On the upside, I have the emotional plot line for the seasonalmarvels gift fic 90% hashed out in my head. I just have to think up a good action plot line to frame the emotional plot line.

As for 2.0verse, it's clear enough in my head now that I know I'm definitely going to be writing it. We'll see if I manage to finish it! With the one truly long fic I've written (about 48,000 words) I had a friend who came onto AIM every single night and badgered me for more to read. I refused to ever send her less than three new pages, which mean I was writing 1,500 words every night for about two and a half months straight. I haven't managed that sustained a writing streak before or since. But I haven't had someone that encouraging and determined and consistent in poking me before or since, either.

It's enough to make me wish I felt comfortable posting works in progress; that way I'd get encouragement every step of the way. But I did that once and it was a bad idea for me--I ended up leaving the story unfinished for 18 months and it became such a creative drain knowing it was out there in public that I eventually wrote a half-assed ending for it that really didn't do justice to the first 85% of the story.

So I'll just have to take the plunge and hope that the bunny has staying power.
