In my constitution class we discussed the right to privacy. It spawned about an hour of rant from me. i was praised by my teacher for thinking of the tough questions and trying to provide answers.
i needed to get this out.
There is no explicit right to privacy, only the idea that even though rights are not expressedt eplicitly, it does not mean that they are denied. We were discussing the rights to abortion and the right to die. At what point is the government able to make a ruling that will satisfy all parties. They can't. By their own law they can not infringe upon anyones right to choose and practice whatever religion they choose, even no religion. Our laws currently side with the womens right to choose within the first trimester of the pregnancy as to whether she will abort. This sticks with the original ideas that the country was founded on, and yet people believe that it needs to be rewritten so that their rights are taken into account. When groups, particularly those with strong religious beliefs, feel that they need to step in for others and decide for them that they cannot take the life of a child or loved one because lives do not belong to people but to god, they are infringing the rights of the person to interperet religion for themselves. When a parent denies their child medicine becuase it goes against their personal doctrines, does that qualify as child abuse? should the government step in and stop this negligence? absolutely not. Our country has a system infused with strong moral inclination, but is supremely unique in its ability to tolerate all ways of thinking. It is becoming a clouded issue as to whether the majority is voting with thier heads or with their spirits. I have made my choice in coming of age to accept my life as my own. You shall not deny me with beliefs. You will always side with the law of your religion rather than that of your country because that is the supreme law to you. By the foundations of this country you will not deny me my right to practice religion, or not, and you will keep your values to yourself while they try to crumble the law. On the one hand, your duty is to spread "the word" and do good by your fellow man. And by the other you are to respect the wishes of your peers and their rights to choose as stated by the constitutional laws that supposedly keep this nation together. You are going to pick a hand to shake, and either way, someone will cry. what gives you the right to let your beliefs take precedance over my choices.
That is all. any questions? talk to me in person.
