Why do I want Captain Roger/Captain Baddog slash? Whywhywhywhywhywhy? And why does it sound so awesome in my head. I'm normally not into enemies-turn-lovers (not that they would ever be a couple. A few flings maybe with lots of hate and snark and arguments and sexual tension and all the good stuff). But thisssssssssssssssss. Want so much. Also, maybe a bit Captain Roger/Rumpott at the side 8D

So, I've read "The Lightning Thief" yesterday (in a few hours). I'm... a bit indecisive about it. There were a few things concerning the narrative that were jarring, especially in the beginning. A few times the narrator seemed to know things he isn't supposed to know (while it is a first person narrator telling his past, it was still jarring) and a few times the narrator (who is the main character) was very dumb in an annoying way. Of course, he's a twelve year old boy, but still. Most of the time I completely forgot that he was twelve. He just kinda didn't read like a twelve year old, if you know what I mean.

Another thing that I really disliked, which is probably more of a personal taste thing; I hatehatehate it when every tiny (often vital) information is kept from the protagonist in the beginning. Often for no reason. Yeah, I can maybe understand that Grover and Percy´s Mom didn't tell him who he really is before they reach the camp. It was terribly annoying, but the situation is strained and the Minotaurus is trying to kill them so it was understandable. But as soon as Percy is in the camp (just after losing his mother) and is told nothing about why he is there and what is going on with all those strange people? What the fuck? Percy is obviously stressed out and pissed that nobody tells him anything. Which is really understandable and I was completely with him. Goodness. Well, my tolerance for shenanigans like that has significantly declined the last years and if it's not a very personal or actually important secret, I am just annoyed if someone keeps it like that (as in badly and Oh-no-I-have-so-not-a-secret-and-I'm-totally-not-acting-like-I-have-thisSUPERIMPORTANT-secret-you-may-not-know-yet way).

A few plot twist were kinda obvious (after the talk through the rainbow, it was incredibly obvious that Luke would be the traitor), but that could be because I know the genre relatively well. Nothing too bad though.

That said, it became better later on. The beginning was very slow, true but around chapter 12 or 13 it picked up and it finally got really fun to read. I immediately adored Ares (I fear it has to do with him wearing leather and being a fun asshole) and Hades. I was a bit suspicious when Hades was described as some kind of pretty boy, but as soon as he started to rant about how expensive it is to keep hell organised and how Charon wants a pay raise because he's into Italian suits and how there is no space for more souls, I lol'ed and now I adore him as well. I also liked Zeus. Mostly because after his description I pictured him as a mixture of Vigarde and Duessel in young and pinstriped suit and he shouldn't be so sexy but he issssssss. 8D (Pinstriped suits are so sexy it's ridiculous) I liked the kids as well, but the gods are just... weakness 8D

I really enjoyed Percy as a narrator. I like it when narrators really have a personality and Percy´s comments here and there were fun. It was definitely not boring.

I'm not sure if I want to buy the next book (or even read it), because even though there was a cliffhanger, I'm not too interested to read about Luke´s and Kronos´ secret plans and stuff. If there were more gods in the next book, maybe. Hm.
Somehow it bugs me that the designer weren't consistent with Viggy´s beard. Why is it closed under his nose one time but not the other? >8I Irrational bug is irrational.
