As the belltower blocks the summer light, all the seeds in our garden fight, to break and blossom...

[the sound of waves breaking on the beach and people chatting nearby can be heard]

Hello Jean, this is Kurenai. I'm sure you're wondering why I called, possibly even where I am after the anti-me embargo you all put in place - really cute, mind you, and very nice of you all to jump down my throat and assume the worst without any of you bothering to ask what I was planning on doing - but that's not why I'm calling. Believe me, I'm in a better place now and that's all you need to know.

[there is a pause, the sound of something muffling the phone, and Kurenai speaking in a distinctly Bostonian accent.] Go on without me, I'll be right theah afta this call. Yeah, it's 'bout my patient, the kid, yeah, wicked impohtant.

[a heavy sigh is heard as the phone becomes unmuffled]

Sorry, I'm supposed to be helping with a friend's daughter, her first surfing lesson. Anyway, much as I'm pretty pissed about everything I figured I'd offer some advice, since I know more about Luke than you do and I really don't want anyone making this harder on him than it needs to be.

He really hates loud noises, and if there's going to be gunfire he might hide some place. He's also really uncomfortable meeting new people, so I need you to be the one to approach him. He knows you, and he had grown used to the idea of you being a part of his life. While I know that's not a possibility anymore please do me this one favor and let him take comfort in your presence.

I've sent you something, you should be getting it today. It's a prime number rubix cube, and it might calm him down when you find him. Luke really loves prime numbers and sequences, so if you can distract him with those. Also, if he needs me I'll have my phone with me.

Look, I know you don't feel you owe me anything and probably figure that you, Anko, and Riza all had the right idea in acting as though I was about to bomb France or something equally ridiculous, but I really thought that you of all people could have given me the benefit of the doubt and attempted to find out what I intended to do before immediately assuming the worse. I guess I was wrong though, and you truly believe that I'd let my emotions cloud my judgment in favor of doing what's best for one of my patients. Whatever, I'm over it. It's not nearly as important as you getting Luke back home so he can get treatment.

Good luck.

[another heavy sigh is heard to the background of the waves as the phone clicks off]

prime numbers rock, bitchery, anko, voice mail to jean havoc, luke, annoyance, advice
