Round 3

Aug 30, 2010 11:48

Little bit more relaxed now following a lovely little break in London with my lovely girlies Han and Prec. We had a very biologically themed trip, went to the Hunterian Museum (massive collection of eighteenth century anatomist's specimens, including a cabinet of syphilitic willies), and to the Skin exhibition at the Welcome Trust, and the Medical Man collection there. They had preserved skin with tattoos on it from nineteenth century sailors. Tres cool. And also an entire display of nineteenth century birthing forceps. Not so cool.

But they did also have a really good reproduction of Bosch's Purgatory, which was pretty incredible.

We went to St. Paul's Cathedral, but I couldn't find The Light of the World, my faviourite pre-raphaelite painting. I think it might be in the National Gallery now. Not sure. But the highlight of that trip was when Prec bought a votive candle to light with the rest of them, and when she'd done so we stood back and looked at it Han said 'Did you make a wish?', which together with much hilarity resulted in us snickering quietly (as evening prayer had just started) about blowing out all the prayer candles like a birthday cake.

So back now. Back to the Eye Hospital tomorrow. Then work. I need to start doing analysis for the consultant for a meeting in December. I anticipate more stress on the horizon.
