Okay, it's official . . .

I have no idea what's going on in the outside world anymore. Someone I work with was talking about how her daughter was staying up all night for a party at a bookstore for the release of 'Breaking Dawn.' I had no clue what the hell she was talking about. She was trying to describe the series to me, but we've got a bit of a language barrier, and she kept describing the Twilight series as a romance series, so the impression I got from her was that it was some sort of crappy Sweet Valley High chicklit. If she had mentioned the, y'know, vampires and werewolves and everything, that probably would have helped me get it.

So I stumbled upon some Twilight sites with detailed plot synopses for all of the books, decided to download the books, and visit some fansites and man, I had no idea how HUGE this thing is. I don't understand why this thing is so huge, because it seems like some crappily written cross between Buffy, the old Beauty and the Beast tv series, and the Vampire Chronicles. My problem with this series is that not only is it an example of crappy writing and ripping off the ideas of others, but this woman didn't even rip off the good ideas of others. Somehow this bitch has managed to combine the flaws of all these series to make some sort of uber-crappy-teen-angst-poor grasp of the English language-series.

And people have been eating it up! This is crazy! And I will get lynched if I voice these opinions in public. It is so weird being on this side, because back in high school everyone except me HATED Harry Potter. And now I'm the hater. ::throws hands in air:: Craziness.

And what the hell is up with this movie??? This is the LAST book series you could possibly make a movie from. Scripts are usually weaker than the source material, and I wouldn't even wipe my butt with the source material. This series is more suited to becoming a series on the CW (which it probably will, because that is WAY too much of a good idea to pass up).

And I'm offended by people comparing this woman to JK. WTF??? Look, I don't think that JK could write, but she had imagination. She had vision. What she did manage to write was almost epic. If she had a co-author who was actually good at writing and was capable of restraining JK from complete character assassination (Hermione and Ron are dead to me. DEAD to me, you hear????!!!!!!) that series would have been crazy-epic-fucking-fantastic. But there is no way in hell I would compare Twilight to HP.

Yeah. So I don't like Twilight. Nope. But I will say, though, casting the dude who played Cedric as Edward? Brilliant. The only brilliant thing about this whole retarded series.

I have no idea how I've completely missed the insanity over this series. Possibly because I haven't gone into a physical bookstore in years. I did go to Barnes & Noble last week, but I was caught up in completely flipping out over the fact that not only has the classical studies section been reduced to a quarter of the size that it used to be, but half of that is taken up with books about pirates. That's right. Plato, Herodotus, Euripides, Suetonius, Illustrated Guide to Pirates. WTF? Shut up. I know what you're going to say, and I don't want to hear it. Bloody pirates. LOL
