You might just be an idiot if...

You walk into a coffee shop and ask... "Um...So do you have espresso?"

*smacks forehead*

This is what I wanted to say:
"No, we're a coffee shop that only makes brewed coffee but somehow we're able to stay in business in a prime retail location. Oh, and those gigantic silver behemoth's over there on the counter? Those aren't espresso machines, they're just pretty boxes that we use to take up space. Yes. Mmhm."

Unfortunately, my actual response was much more polite and tame.

It was like last summer/fall when most of Novi lost power halfway through the morning and we were just serving the rest of the coffee we had already brewed.

The customer breezed in, we greeted her and apologized for the power outage but said we had some brewed coffee still. What was the first thing she did?

"Oh, I'll have a latte."

And I actually had to patiently explain to her that we couldn't make lattes because our machines depended on electricity. Her response?

"So wait, you can't make lattes?"

Me: "No ma'am, (btw - you can tell I'm annoyed when I call people 'sir' or 'ma'am') we can't pull espresso or steam milk without electricity."

She still seemed bewildered after I explained to her. And there were a few customers after her who did almost the same thing! Though not as bad.
