There is definitely something to be said about keeping an open mind. I sincerely appreciate the friends I have because they are all educated and open minded. It's relieving to know that I'm able to discuss my views and opinions on such a wide array of topics with people who don't have my same beliefs about the subjects but are willing to learn and listen anyway. Every so often I find myself wandering by emily (my roommate's) room to say hello and we end up in a discussion for an hour about the state of the world. We have very contrasting opinions on religion and politics and legislation etc., BUT one of the things we can agree on is that life can be better (for ourselves and other people) by respecting the views and opinions of another person. She gladly listens to me ramble about how valuable I think education is and how social issues are an important political concern for me. And I appreciate hearing how catholicism represents her chosen moralistic standpoint. It's a pretty easy thing to say that if everyone were more accepting then the world wouldn't have the shitty problems it does (Because there were always be problems), but I guess this whole entry is just me being glad that I have the opportunities I do, and can be surrounded by people who want to make life better for everyone (regardless of their religious/political/social views)
