Requests are done-72 icons behind the cut and those of you requesting icons will notice that you have more than you requested because I figured you'd at least get something you like. LOL!

They are all shareable with the exception of those with usernames (numbers: 1 & 56 ) and of course numbers 64-67 & 70-72 since those were made for twinsfan33 using her ( Read more... )

I'm like a work in progress.

Aren't we all? ;-) I know I certainly am!

I really did try to up the contrast but it just looked strange so I went with it as best I could.

Black and white icons are haaaarrrrd, IMO. They're a lot more difficult than colored ones and even when you think you get to a place where you know how to handle them, you'll get an image that refuses to cooperate, or at least that's what happens to me!! Typically fiddling with curves helps mine out a lot, and putting a black layer set to overlay is another thing that helps IMO.

I would try my hand at TDK icons, but I refuse to see the movie. I just can't bring myself to see Heath in it plus the Joker on a whole has always freaked me out. LOL!

Oh, no!! Really? He certainly is freakishly creepy, but he's supposed to be that way. I know a lot of people were sad to be seeing Heath's last performance, but he did earn an Oscar by it, and he did such a fabulous job that I think it would be a shame for anyone to miss it. But you don't have to listen to me, I'm just the girl who spent half of yesterday staring at the TDK costumes on display in LA! ;-P

I hadn't thought to use a black layer set to overlay. Must try that out! I usually prep the base as much as possible then use a gradient map to do the black and white because I think it gives you much better contrast and then I fiddle with a color balance layer.

One day I'll see TDK-I promise you! Oooh-How were the costumes?

What's a gradient map?

Mostly, if I know right off it's going to be black and white (sometimes I'll try to color it, then change my mind) I'll start with a black overlay and white overlay, adding an extra white if it's a darker cap, black if it's lighter/needs more contrast, etc.

In a word? They were AMAAAAAAAAZING, the Batsuit in particular. (that baby is detailed!) No photos were allowed, sadly, otherwise I would've filled up my camera card, but I've found some galleries online that I'm going to share when I finish writing up my blog post about it. ;-)

Gradient maps apply colors based on the light and dark scales already present in an image. This explains it a little better although the article is for photoshop. I know GIMP does have a gradient map function and I believe it's called Gradients Dialog.

:boo: No pictures eh? I do wonder why some places don't allow it especially if there's enough lights in the place you don't need a flash.

Ohhhhh! I'd never used that tool before, but I fiddled around and I think I found it. Thank you! :-D

Yeah, I know. It was very dark in there, though, so I would have needed a flash. I can understand the flash part of "no photography" but other than that it's just selfish IMO. What's the harm in a few pictures??

ETA: Now I'm gonna have to change my icon, or recolor it, because that dress is not blue! It's green!
