This chapter was wonderful. I'm trying to decide what I liked about it so much, and I think it must be your Watson's voice, and his thoughts as he reacts to his situation. He's just the right mix of resentful independence, put out and pissed off enough to risk offending the Marquis, but also disturbed enough to not want to be left alone and vulnerable in the Underground.
His thoughts on Holmes were perfect. From the memory of learning about the stairs, to hiding his deeper affection for the sake of their friendship, was very Watson. Giving that background for Watson's unvoiced feelings for Holmes, really makes his connection to the Marquis much more complex and real. I really liked how you handled culmination of tension between the Marquis and Watson too. It felt natural, and I really can't blame Watson at all for wanting something real for a while in all of this strangeness, especially the way you wrote it.
The last line of course just had me grinning like a maniac. I could just picture Holmes standing there behind them with narrowed eyes, tense jaw, and all six feet of him ready for action! I can't wait to read the reunion, and to see how Holmes knows the Marquis and the Underground. And hopefully Watson will get a clue from that sexy possessive growl that Holmes totally just Claimed(with a capitol C) him with, and act on some of those repressed feelings. :)
Great writing as usual!!! Thanks and keep up the great work! This storyline is just fantastic, and I totally wouldn't mind reading about all the crazy adventures our crime fighting couple has in London above and below for years to come! Watson would totally make a kickass Hunter. ;)

I think the thing about Watson's feelings for Holmes that makes it most realistic for me is that it's not something he really obsesses over - it's just part of who he is now.
Holmes' arrival like that was pretty much set from the start. I think it might have been the first thing I actually wrote down, thinking and then right when they kiss, Holmes steps out of whatever hiding place he's in and goes MINE!. So I'm glad you like!
There will be much more interaction between Holmes/Watson and the Underground/marquis) in coming chapters! I just...spilled water on my computer (after real life kicked my ass), so it'll be a while. >
