Went up to the farm to go shooting, and mentioned off-hand to the farmer there that I was looking forward to trying non-subarctic gardening this spring, in a little patch of backyard. He smiled at me, and gestured over to the lower pasture, sometimes a rifle range, where two cows waiting to go to the processor were contentedly converting hay to fertilizer. "I can plow up the lower pasture - what are you thinking of planting?"
Been helping the housemate rebuild a 1954 Johnson motor for a boat, looking forward to taking it out on the lake. As we started talking about boats, he mentioned that he'd always wanted to build a boat. His ex had emphatically stated he wasn't allowed to... but she's been years gone. He flirted with building a lapstrake, but we're looking at a caravel. With lumber sourced from trees at the farm, cut at the sawmill right there between the middle pasture and the upper pasture.
Been hoping to get a callback, and an interview. Gotten 9 or so interviews so far... no offers yet, but there's time to come...
