I got 4.5 out of 5 on that English oral that I thought I did terribly on. 90%. And I did far better on my second Philosophy assignment than I did on the first. I seem to be getting a lot of luck in terms of academic stuff lately. Heh. Fingers crossed that that luck continues through to next week. Assignments, Mandarin oral (please, God, kill me now), and that Criminology essay which both my tutor and my lecturer said that a number of people failed/scored appalling grades. I hope that I at least scraped a distinction.
I just had a flick through Khanh's copy of Marilyn Hacker's Love, Death, and the Changing of the Seasons sonnet anthology, and now I'm really keen to read it. The poetry is... I wouldn't say that it's amazing, but it's simple. There's a story there but it's put in verse and follows a sonnet structure in a way that's really interesting to read and far better than any crap Shakespeare's come up with. But... maybe that's just my opinion. They're centered on the persona (probably Hacker) and her relationship with another woman (incidentally called Rachel/Ray. ~_^ ) I really want to get my hands on the book, but... eh.
I bought two other novels tonight, both of which I anticipate reading and both of which I'll likely not have time to read, but I'll keep them in my room anyway for those moments when I desperately need a distraction.
I'm half anticipating the end of this semester and half loathing the fact that it's coming so soon. Obviously, I want to go home, but on the other hand, there's a job for a junior sales assistant in a pet shop down at Bentleigh. It's looking for people to work weekends, which is perfect, and I can get down to Bentleight from a bus near my place, which is just awesome beyond words. The only thing is that these people are looking for people to employ long-term, which I can't do 'cause I'll be going back in the summer. It really sucks. I'm really keen on working in a pet shop because, like, I've basically come to the (somewhat/vastly depressing) realization that it's the only way I'll ever be able to get anywhere close to (domestic) animals before I'm old and getting my money from crappy pensions from the cheapass Hong Kong government. I want a pet so badly that it kinda hurts whenever I go in and out of a pet shop, but there's pretty much no way that I'll ever be allowed to have one, ever. But eh. Plus, it'd be nice if I could give my salary to my mom. Or put it in a savings account to fund my brother's studies or something. I guess I'll just have to hope that the job opportunity is still there next semester, and that I'll be more settled in and not be craving home and old friends so much. Then I could just work through the winter vacation too. :\
I really have to stop procrastinating and get back to reading Shakespeare now. =__= I am so very, very glad that the man is dead. I sincerely hope that his death was slow and excruciatingly painful.
... Blargh. One thing I can agree with the man on is the motif (that he keeps THROWING IN THE READERS' FACES; GOD, MAN, GIVE IT A REST) of links between love and insanity/foolishness (and foolishness and every bloody other thing on the face of the planet, but that's beside the point). Meh. It's ridiculous to be missing someone this much. :\
