Second post of the day, w00tyay.

Finished watching Brokeback Mountain with mom. We fastforwarded through the gay pr0n and I covered my face at the het pr0n. Y'know, it probably says something that I'm more squicked by the nekkid Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger than the gay pr0n. Kissing scenes made me squeal. (That girl who played as Jack's wife had a nifty bra, but I had to cover my eyes. Woe.)

And uh... I'm trying not to be spoilery, so uh... it was good, it brought a tear to my eye, the ending was so unfair (but also so perfect), and uh... it sucked that our DVD only had Chinese subtitles, because I could barely understand/hear what Heath was saying. I spent the first ten minutes praying that Heath was only mumbling because he had something in his mouth (aside from his tongue, I mean). I only really started understanding halfway through the film, and we had to keep pausing so I could translate what they said into MalaysianChineseEnglish for my mom. (This, by the way, does not mean that the film was bad. It was excellent. It just demonstrates how bad I am at picking up... whatever accent they were doing. I've attempted to mimick that accent before; I've always just slurred straight back into Cockney/Australian.)

Brokeback Mountain made me really want to smoke. Bah. Stupid cowboys.

And now I'm bored and this meme interests me, so:

List your six classes:

1. English
2. Mandarin
3. Art
4. Psychology
5. Biology
6. Maths

1) Favorite person to talk to during your 4th class
Er... well, I like talking to Melanie, but Sophie sits next to me and Melanie sits across the room... I don't talk much in Psychology.

2) Teacher during 4th?
Mrs. St. John.

3) What class do you enjoy most?
Anglais.

4) Who is your favorite teacher?
Mrs. Ager (English teacher). I love how she loves her subject.

5) Who annoys you most during 6th?
Me. I sit in a corner in Maths, which for some reason triggers mental wangsting.

6) Who do you sit with at lunch?
Myself, most of the time. Or I'd prefer to, anyway. Sometimes Kirtika.

7) Which class is most boring?
I have to agree with Suzanne when she says 'Mandarin'. I don't understand a word, hence it is pointless and ego-bursting to be there.

8) Which class has the best guys/girls to look at?
I don't check out the boys/girls in my classes. I avoid quite a few of them.

9) Which person would most likely fall asleep or not pay attention in 3rd class?
In Art? If they had a death wish, maybe. Plus it's kinda impossible to fall asleep when standing upright with a brush in your hand. People who skive on the other hand... Vivian and Simone, maybe?

10) Which class do you get the most homework from?
Er... I get homework from Biology most frequently, but Psychology gives huge essays or timed essays, which is...gah.

11) If you could get rid of one class, what would it be?
MANDARIN OH DEAR GOD I AM SO LINGUISTICALLY CHALLENGED.

12) Do you take a music or art class?
... I take Art. At higher level. (Big mistake.)

13) Who have you worked with on a project/lab/home work assignment in 1st class?
Kirtika, Fiona and I are often working together in poem/prose analysis in English.

14) Do you like school?
*dopey, puppetpal!Hermione expression* I like to learn.

... But I think I like my sleep more. I am sadly one of those people who gets cranky halfway through the week from sleeping for seven hours instead of eight (SHOCK HORROR).

15) Which class do you have most friends in?
Biology.

16) What class usually gets out of control?
None that I can think of.

17) Which class do you learn the most?
English. Or... Psychology. I learn a lot from all, methinks... 'cept Art, 'cause frankly, I don't give a damn about it anymore.

18) Who would you like to kick out of second class?
My teacher. No teacher= no class. Ms. Niu is very sweet and a really good teacher in my opinion, but I just... loathe Mandarin in general. I have learned pretty much nothing over these past two years, except how to take an ego-bashing without crying and how to make crying look like you're having a sneezing seizure.

I'm apparently politically-challenged (as well as linguistically). They're showing ads on Star right now for the... whatever it was that was showing on Monday, the Oscars or something, and Ang Lee was like, "Thank you to all my fans in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, xie xie da jia" (something to that extent, anyway) and I thought it was awfully sweet, and I told Dallas and she went ballistic and didn't explain why. Meh. The only thing that gets to me a little is the speaking of Mandarin when HK's a Canto city, but it's really no big deal.

*IS SO IGNORANT*

... Movies/television serials where the characters are in Hong Kong and everyone speaks Mandarin though? That's a little annoying. The fact that it's totally unrealistic, I mean, not the fact that it's Mandarin. I do realize that Mandarin is an easier dialect to speak than Cantonese.

Speaking of which... the first time I watched Serenity was on a plane, where they don't helpfully supply English subtitles when the characters are speaking Mandarin. I didn't even realize that they were speaking Mandarin until Zoe was on the mule and yelling, "Zuo xia (sit down)!" I don't know whether it was intentional for their accents to be so bad-- maybe it was to make it seem like another language entirely? Mandarin isn't actually that difficult to get, and I'm not just saying it because I'm Chinese. The only reason that I recognized Zoe's "Zuo xia!" was because she barked it, and er... well, the tones make the words sound like they should be barked anyway.

And, hey. Isn't the woman who played Zoe also the same woman who played Jasmine in Angel S4? She spoke Cantonese. Bad Cantonese, but she said "your" pretty well. (Not like I'm one to talk, anyway. My Cantonese makes my relatives laugh hysterically.)

... It's twelve. I think I should go to sleep now. >.>
