Went to Doujicon with Celine today. T'was disappointing, so we headed out to the city to Minotaur (a preeeetty big comic book/manga shop) for our graphic novel goodness instead. I got vol.1 of Kingdom Hearts II, and another Strangers in Paradise. Then we headed out to Victoria Market.
Oh my gosh. I just found another reason to love the city. ♥ We didn't have enough time to see it all, but basically there were stalls of clothes and random trinkets and glittering things and aromatherapy things and there was a pet shop and some dudes were thinking of buying a puppy so the shopkeeper brought three of the puppies out and I just kinda shoved in and petted one of the puppies for a while and gahhhhhh it was so adorable my heart melted. It had such a cute face and these big gorgeous eyes that were so trusting and loving and it kept nosing into my palm and all over my hand and it was so affectionate and good with strangers and oh my gosh it was so perfect. Celine and I walked away from the pet shop, but I had to go back before leaving the market entirely to say goodbye to the puppy. ;__;
There was also a stall where a dude was selling chickens and ducks and stuff (for breeders, I guess). I was staring at the chickens and at the kids who were thrusting their fingers in through the bars, and kept thinking how strange it was that I used to do stuff like that, but I don't dare anymore because of the avian influenza that kept raping hitting Hong Kong. I don't think Oz has ever been hit by avian influenza, but that's... guh. I was watching the kids and thinking, "PULL YOUR FINGERS BACK, PULL THEM BACK! AGHH! DON'T PUT THEM IN THERE!" Eventually I decided to look at the ducklings instead. They were nowhere near as cute as the puppy (or the cockatiel in the shop, for that matter), but they were cute and fluffy, so meh. I think the guy was selling pigeons (for what reason I'm not entirely sure-- it's not like people eat pigeons here, and there're tons just flapping freely around the city center) and doves. o.0 I think I'm probably wrong on the latter's species, but I don't know what other type of white bird it'd be. (And no, it wasn't a goose. I can tell the difference. XP)
Oh, and I found something really, really fantastic (not as awesome as the puppy, but at least it's purchase-able) in the market. I bought knee-high rainbow-striped toe socks. Oh my gosh, I haven't even worn them yet, but I have them laid out on my desk and I literally keep looking up from my reading to gaze at them in adoration. They're basically a combo of three things I loved in high school:
a) Bright colors.
b) Stripes.
c) Knee-highs.
(Lawl. Sudden flashbulb memory of wearing as many stripes and clashing patterns as possible in high school.) And the socks are toe socks. Toe socks, fer chris'sakes. Guh. ♥
I watched Garden State the other day 'cause a) a lot of my favorite songs are on the soundtrack and b) according to Facebook, Melanie seemed to like it, and we have a similar taste in movies. I didn't think it was particularly good-- it reeked of an indie movie (as in, in the themes were painfully, stereotypically 'indie'), though there were parts with bathos that made the film really funny. Zach Braff's better at comedic parts than he is at playing a troubled young man, I reckon. And Natalie Portman was incredibly annoying in the film. But... eh. The music's good. Emmers, have you heard The Shins' "New Slang"? It seems like your kind of song-- especially if you liked "Tie the Rope". I love
the lyrics and the melody.
... According to imdb, Zach Braff also voiced Chicken Little. Oh my gosh. XD *cracks up* I had a nap just then, and literally woke up face-to-face with my Chicken Little doll. I was like, "... *gormless* Huuunh?" I really hafta download and watch that movie someday. ♥
Kim, what kind of music do you like? I have a feeling that you'd also like "New Slang", for some reason, but I have no idea why I'd think that. XD;
Celine, yanno how sometimes you buy the Caesar salad kit in the plastic box in Coles? Try getting the chicken Caesar salad. It's a little more pricey, but I tried it today and it is fantastic.
