[Trade]

"Let's trade information," Devon said, as they waited in line at Starbucks. He had gotten her up at an ungodly time, only because he hadn't been able to sleep, while Sam slept like a log. He had wanted to get out of the apartment before Sam had woken up for his morning rub.

"You have information I'm interested in," Marion asked, crossing her arms and tilting her head.

"A certain editor might have met with me about a certain holiday," Devon hinted. "...That passed. OK, I don't have much information to trade but I figured that's what's fair. You give me information...I give...you information," he said, pointing at both himself and her, respectively.

"What do you need," Marion asked, straightening herself up and taking a few steps in the direction of the counter. The other thing about getting her up early, Devon had to entertain her thoroughly while they waited forever in a line that stretched out the door.

"Sam," Devon replied.

"You have Sam," she shot back.

"I know that. I just -- I don't know how I have him. I don't know how he sees us," he admitted, taking another step forward. "We were so good, doing so well and then that stupid barbecue - which I forgive you for and then the blind date and now -- I don't even know. When he came up onto the roof, I think it was a good five minutes before Sam cracked an actual smile. That isn't good!"

"And?"

"And -- I don't know," Devon said, pocketing his hands and moving forward once again. He spoke up again a second later, his arm now outstretched. "Ethan knows."

"Ethan knows?"

"Ethan knows," Devon claimed, nodding. "I think this Savannah girl was a test. I think it was a test that Sam failed. But, Ethan knows."

"Ethan knows," Marion said again, processing.

"But, Sam isn't acknowledging Ethan knowing! He's not acknowledging anything!" Devon said, a little too loudly. He smiled at the people around him before lowering his voice again. "And - OK, Alex really likes you and doesn't want to fuck you too up. I mean, he wants to - you know, fuck you but he doesn't want to uh, fuck up."

"That's your information?" Marion deadpanned.

"Take it or leave it," Devon said, trying to stare his best friend down.

"I'll take it." After giving in, Marion sighed, crossing her arms as they made it into the establishment itself. "What do you want me to do?"

"I don't know," Devon admitted. "I don't know what I can do. He doesn't talk - about you know, his feelings. Not, that we have to have to pass around the share bear but my therapist seriously got under my skin yesterday," Devon continued.

"You're seeing a-"

"Shush," Devon said, leaning in. "So is Sam. But, he's seeing a therapist and I'm seeing both a you know, therapist and a couples therapist. And my couples therapist has it in for me."

"Devon, you thought the woman on the corner had it in for you," Marion replied, glaring.

"So?"

"So, she asked for loose change."

"Who asks for loose change?" Devon asked.

"Yes, that's the point I'm trying to make," Marion nodded, laughing taking a few more steps forward.

"Either way, I'm freaked out. Are we valid? Are Sam and I together? I just don't know," Devon said, shrugging his shoulders before realizing they had made it to the counter. Marion looked to him and he put his hands in front of him, palms outward. "Oh no, it's too early for coffee," Devon responded, having worked himself into a tizzy. Marion simply glared.
