Last night, three things happened which make me so hopeful for the future of IWA:
1. We rocked the house. I have come to realize that shows in which I get big laughs, I tend to think went better than they actually do, as I have the unexpected rush of being funny. However, Conor felt like he did a terribe job and said the show went amazing, so that ruins that idea. The better indicator, however, was unexpected. Normally when a scene is edited, the next scene starts right up and laughs and cheers come at the funny parts. Last night by the third or fourth scene whenever someone ran accross the stage to edit a scene there were cheers. People were cheering like we were mission and had just turned the lights off. Only this was better, because mission has someone calm the crowd down to start the next game. We can't do that, so a few scenes had to wait a good five, ten seconds to start the next scene. The best received IWA show yet.
2. Five members officially left the troupe. While this doesn't make me happy, it was necessary, and we now have a core group of dedicated members. This means I don't have to worry about who's in and who's out for the next show and I can start worrying about more important things. It gives us a little more flexibility with how we approach teams as well. I wish we had them all, but I'm happy with those who've stayed.
3. There was an afterparty which was well attended and a great deal of fun. When I was first made a part of Student Valley Productions in my freshman year, the afterparty was the legitimizing of any show. If it was a good show, people wanted to celebrate it, and throughout the night you'd have people telling the performers that they did a good job, what they especially liked. An ego boost? Yes. But it wasn't only an ego boost, it brought everyone together for the troupe that was being celebrated. This wparty was all of that. Playing dress up with Conor's clothes, dancing to the music with Christie, singing with Tyler, the pig pile on Nick and Evan...
Its going to be a good semester.
