Aside for my civil law exam I haven’t studied for, I’m rather excited for this week at academy. We should be finishing the classroom portion of “Driver Proficiency” by Monday afternoon and be ready for the driving course!!! It’s a little silly that PennDot keeps changing the title of this class. In our crappy books the title of the course changes from “Objective Driving” to “Police vehicle awareness” but in any title they all just mean “Hittin’ sh#t with cop cars” so I shouldn’t complain too much.
I find it absolutely amusing that the training will be driving a maximum of 30 miles but the car will sustain enough damage to the brake pads, rotors, tires, transmission etc etc etc, that the cars will have to be put out of service or be overhauled. And to think I’m getting graded to do this ^__^
A few semesters back, the academy folks tried to save money on car costs by renting from Enterprise and stocked up on collision damage insurance. Alas, the stupid rental company wised up and banned our police academy from ever renting from them again. Enterprise was not happy to discover their cars could only stop and stay in park with help from the emergency break. It’s a damn shame collision insurance isn’t as fail safe as a consumer would think.
