I certainly hope not, haha. Jack is one of my favorite musical artists of all time but I could really do without The Dead Weather. This will make me even more sad.

They said they broke up just because it was time? Basically if there is a reason they're breaking up, nobody's saying. They said it's not due to personal or creative differences, or because of health reasons.

So, it just is.

That's a shame. I feel like it band mates don't hate each other, why not keep going?

I mean, it's possible that they just don't really know what to do anymore? I mean, I think Jack's creative and talented as hell, but each of his bands has a very distinct sound. Maybe he's just run out of Stripes material?

Personally, the big "we're breaking up" announcements are always kind of unnecessary. If one or more of the artists involved are about to start a whole new project then I guess I can understand it. But Jack already has several other projects so there's not really any need for an announcement about that.

I think it's a kind of a symbolic "putting a lid on it." And it makes me sad. Why can't bands just not be making albums. Why must they rule it out completely that they'll EVER make another?

I guess people will bug them about it if they continue to not make albums for years and years without saying something -- so it's better to just get it over with. BUT STILL.

/is in mourning.

Agreed.

Like with actors, if they don't act for X amount of years people always ask what they're doing & why they haven't gotten work. An announcement makes the questions go away.

But then again, how many times have bands said they'll never tour again and it doesn't happen?
