Apparently I decided to actually check my flist at the perfect time. All thanks to one of those annoying pingback bot notification thingies. This is a good reason to break my hiatus.

They're on the run, and all Ronon can think is that he's sworn off running, never wanted to run like this again. But the Wraith had come silently, with some sort of new technology that had let them creep up to Atlantis with the stealth of an mpertulu - and their strike had been much the same; quick, merciless, devastating. So now they're running, sleeping in shifts, looking over their shoulders as they try to find anyone else who might have survived, might have somehow escaped.

Ronon's less hopeful than John is, but he keeps quiet, keeps searching. He knows how important it is to have something to keep you going.

It's nearly seven Earth months - Ronon knows, because John's been keeping careful track, a notch in a stick every day, a new stick every seven days - before John lies till against him, his back pressed right against Ronon's warm chest, and sighs. "We're not going to find anyone else."

"No," Ronon agrees.

"Rodney, Teyla. Carson. Elizabeth."

"No," Ronon says again, more softly, trying to cushion the blow. John still reels a little, like he's been bracing for the blow but is still shocked by how hard it comes.

It's a few long moments before John's whole body slumps. Ronon's glad they're already lying down. "What do we do now?"

"Keep going," Ronon says simply.

John nods slowly. Ronon throws an arm around his waist and keeps a careful eye open as John slips into sleep.

Oh this is lovely and sweet and sad. I love the idea of the two of them on the run like this. You have made my night. (My week, my year!)
