Greetings from Claremont. All our stuff is here. I finally have my computer. My room is in a mess because I was trying to set up my computer. It's not very hot right now. The movers were really nice even though they had a gazillion piercings and tatoos. My mom was so afraid of them for a while. I've been trying to organize the study. We have so ( Read more... )

darn you. I got 790 when I took it. Darn you and your smartness

but I'm happy about my 800 writing.

Ahhh everyone's too smart, I got a stupid 720 on the world history. I got an 800 on the math though, but I can't believe I got a 720... I hate smart people now.

Yeah, an 800 but a 90th percentile, I should have gotten everything right and been in the top percentile... I don't know, I just think overall I could have done so much better...

I care about it, and my parents will when they see it. I'm mostly worried about what they're gonna do when they see the 720 though. I guess I could just say I'm going to take it again and get an 800 this time...

Mine will just see that 90th percentile is probably out of 100, and that 90/100 is 90%, which is barely an A. That means it's bad. Then they'll see that it's possible to get an 800, if not higher, from my math one, so they'll be digusted with my 720. I just need 100th percentile, then maybe they'll be happy. Actually, I doubt that, but it's worth a try.

percentile has nothing to do with your raw score, only your scaled score . . . everyone who got an 800 is 90 percentile. So in math, it's absolutely impossible to get 99 percentile . . . even if you got them all right. And you probably won't need to send in your SATII world history score, anyway. I believe UC's are only requiring 2 now, and other schools probably are, too. So now you can take the SATII for physics or something else, get an 800, and never list your world history score at all, if you want.

ugh . . . everyone, stop comparing your scores! it just makes everyone depressed, I think . . .

Wait, how does that 90th percentile thing work? How can no one get 99th... I know people got higher than me because I know I got one wrong, I put 10 and it was 9. I hope I can drop the world history one, but that doesn't change my parents not being happy when they get it... it's probably going to come about when grades do too, that's really going to suck...

Okay, here's my dumb explanation, not that it matters. Don't you love it how I pretend to know this stuff?

When ETS grades your test, you get a RAW score based on how many you got right or wrong. I can't remember if there were 50 or 60 questions, but let's just say there were 50. So you could get a raw score of anywhere from, say, around 43 to 50 and still get a SCALED score of 800. haha, following so far? However, your percentile is based on your SCALED score only. So whether you got 43 or 50 doesn't matter, you're still 90 percentile. In a way, that's kind of nice. Your parents (as long as they don't see the score report in the mail) will never know how many you missed. Just show them this explanation and say you got them all right. Great, isn't it?

Yeah, that sort of makes sense in a weird way... well... I'll tell them that. That will at least get me off the hook for my math score.

hey, how did you know the percentile thing? they don't give percentiles online, do they? and, hey, if it makes you feel better - i got a 630 on the WH test. of course, i didn't study and expected a 400 but still...

Yeah, online it tells you. I didn't study as much as I should have, but I studied like 10 hours the day before the AP test, so I expected it to all come back to me, and it didn't.

ooh, never mind. i found it. but, yeah, i got 90th percentile too, for a score of 800. so don't freak out ;) and i Think i got everything right... though, dunno, maybe not. i make stupid mistakes. but, lol, my 790 in bio got me a higher pecentile - 97. :D
