I wish I had a video camera that could follow me around and record everything that's been happening. I've been having so many adventures and thoughts but I they just keep pouring through me faster than I can seem to write them down. I'd be stupid to think (or even want) to write absolutely everything down, but I know I'll forget lots of wonderful things if I don't keep track of some of it.
I went to the rugby match on Saturday, and it was fantastic. I loved it -- waaay more exciting than American football. The game has a faster pace ... less stopping, re-positioning, scratching, debating, coaching, commentary, commercials ... it just raged across the field for two 40-minute blocks of pure rip-roaring rugby, with a few quick whistle-blows and throw-ins that only slowed the action for a few seconds. All the players were incredibly fit, first-class sprinters and built like trucks, so tough. Big, but still quick. Lots of passing, dodging, more team-oriented than football, I think, although I'm no expert there. The crowd was great too -- the stadium was absolutely packed with people wearing the Canterbury red and black. Someone started "the wave" and it went around the stadium several times. Since we're the Canterbury "Crusaders," they had several "knights" on horses ride around the stadium at halftime, and the crowd went wild. There were also some cheerleaders, which was apparently a new thing, but nobody really payed attention to them. I was lucky enough to end up sitting next to James, one of my kiwi friends, and he explained the rules to me as the game went on, very patiently answering all my questions. I wish they had home matches more often; I think the next one is at the end of April.
Well this entry is going to get cut short because Colin came in and we chatted about spring break, downloaded some music, and all of a sudden it's 1:30 in the morning. He just left and I'm too tired to keep writing ... a demain.
