Spooky Drabble: "Masks"

My first Silmarillion drabble, written for illwynd's "Six Days of Spooky in Middle-Earth" challenge.

By the counsel of Huan and the arts of Lúthien he was arrayed now in the hame of Draugluin, and she in the winged fell of Thuringwethil. Beren became in all things like a werewolf to look upon, … and horror was in his glance as he saw upon his flank a bat-like creature clinging with creased wings. (“Of Beren and Lúthien”)

Masks

When they donned their disguises, he felt his body changing, twisting, becoming wolflike; but it was her transformation that filled him with horror. She became a shrunken beast with coarse fur and wings of wrinkled leather. Her beautiful, slim fingers lengthened into grotesque twigs tipped with cruel barbs for rending flesh. Her pearly teeth yellowed and sharpened. Her rose-petal lips stretched into a thin maw fit only for sucking blood. Only her eyes still showed any trace of who she was.

Thuringwethil herself was terrifying; but far worse it was to know that this beside him had once been Lúthien!
