what? you want more details?

okay:

Jason schwartzman, who I was a bit skeptical about in this role, was wonderful as the shy and simple Louis, Dunst plays Marie as no one else could and manages to capture the confusion, inner struggle and youthful joy of the young Queen.

Most people won't expect the perspective of the piece, which is not your typical french revolutionary film or your usual film of court sumptuosity. It focuses more on the youth aspect of the monarchs, identifying them with mondern audiences through music and using the trial and tribulations of the young monarchs to catch the imaginations of the audience.

Anyone who's ever had a bit of teen agnst, homesickness or that dream where you end up naked in front of the class will find themselves sympathizing with Marie, who struggles to fit in the French court and who must juggle the pressure of her mother and her rank with the task of warming up an unresponsive husband and trying to find some sort of happiness for herself.

The ending is a bit brusque, but it seems somehow appropriate; perhaps a measure of how much the young rulers have grown.

costumes: 9/10, overall 7.75/10
