the sounds of funerals

May 03, 2007 17:14

went to bid farewell to an old family friend today.

here's a tip - write down what songs you want played at your funeral and give it to a friend or keep it somewhere safe. because if you don't, you could end up with anything. (i just had a terrible thought that george did actually want 'i will always love you' by w houston)

and if you're going to have a service in one of the chapels at the cemetery, make sure they have a decent sound system, rather than the one we had today that wouldn't play one of the cds (a replacement portable stereo was sought from a nearby chapel i assume, possibly cutting short someone else's unchained melody or something). portable stereos blaring from the back corner? please...

so if anyone is listening, and outlasts my good self, please throw my ashes in the ocean (oh - i have to say i actually laughed out loud at the service accidently, as i was daydreaming about my ashes being scattered and thought of donnie and the dude from the big labowski. it wasn't a big laugh, and was well disguised, but it was involuntary. that may sound disrespectful, but i was quite sad at the time, and the image just flew in front of me).

and don't let anyone discuss me looking down from heaven.

and do a quick head count. if it's less than 100, reschedule for the next week.

does everyone have one or two songs that they'd like played at their funeral? i've thought about it.

i'll give three. join in - it'll be fun.

Low - 'coattails'
galaxie 500 - 'king of spain pt 2'
movietone - 'the crystallisation of salt at night'

that'll get the party started. there are so many you could list hey. it's actually the only real moment that you have to shove your musical taste in everyones faces.

"i, ah, suffer for my music and now it's your turn...."
