Kurosaki walked with parents off the train. His parents worked at the same building together coincidently, meaning Kuro would be with both his parents as he accompanied his father to work. Kuro ran ahead of them, running across the street, wounding through the almost none moving cars. He stopped just before his designation: a large, almost out-of-date building. His eyes were wide as he looked up at the building. "It makes me feel tiny," he said to himself, amused.
His parents led him inside once they had caught up with him. The building was dimly lit and seemed empty, aside from a few people sitting behind a counter in a room off to the side. Masami, Kuro's mother, walked towards this room. She was a secretary at the building. Tsuda, Kuro's father, continued forth down one of the hallways. Eyes peered out doorways at them, curious of who was trespassing down the buildings halls.
They arrived at a small room. The room was hot, despite the window being open. Kuro once heard that in America, nearly every household had conditioning. He couldn't believe when he heard it. He thought of it as amazing. Tsuda turned on a tiny fan on his desk that didn't do much except stir the hot air a little. His father then got to work on a stack of papers on his desk.
After about an hour, Kurosaki was bored and nearly dead from the heat. His father had not done anything else except go through more papers. Surely he couldn't be making that much money from a job like this. Kuro walked into the hallway where it seemed considerably cooler. He sat down, his back against the wall. The halls were completely empty. Before long, Kuro had fallen asleep.
He later woke to two people talking while walking down the halls. They were whispering to each other, maybe in fear of disturbing the quiet. Kuro overheard some of their conversation as they passed by him, not once looking down at him.
"......made an offering to the Boss." The taller one said.
"Was it that offering?" The other one asked, seeming shocked.
"That's what I heard." The taller one replied.
"What did he do?" The other one said, still sounding astonished.
"I don't know. Whatever he did, he pissed the Boss off."
"Did the Boss accept it?"
"Well he is still alive so obviously." The taller one sounded aggravated.
"Maybe he....." The other one began, walking out of earshot. Kuro cocked his head watching the two men. It interested him. Mainly because the guys were being mysterious the way they were talking. Kuro replayed the conversation in his head. His thoughts soon ran to wondering who this boss they were talking off was. Maybe it was the guy his father worked for.
Before his thoughts could deepen, he heard the small repeated thuds of someone approaching. His eyes trailed along the floor in the direction the footsteps were coming. Kuro noted that the person was walking funny, as if they couldn't keep their balance. A few minutes later, a chubby set man appeared around a corner. He was dressed in a suit, giving him a business man appearance, yet something was different. At first Kuro didn't notice it until the man brought up his hand to wipe the sweat droplets off his forehead. The man's smallest finger on his hand was heavily bandaged.
Kuro looked at the man curiously. This was a new sight for Kuro. He saved an image of the man in his memories, in case someday he might see him again. The man walked down the halls slowly, in a sort of limp. His leg couldn't be injured too, could it? Kuro questioned in his head. Time passed slowly as the guy made his way down the hall. Like the two men before him, he did not look at Kuro.
Kuro jumped at the sound of the intercom coming on. A message rang out through the now empty halls. Tsuda Suzuki, report to the Business Conference room on the fourth floor immediately. The message was repeated. Kuro cocked his head while watching the speaker on the wall above him. His head turned quickly to meet his father as Tsuda walked quickly out of the room. Kuro began to rise until his father requested that Kuro stayed there. Sitting back down, Kuro looked at his father angrily.
As his father hurried down the halls, he called to Kuro, warning him not to leave that area until his return. Kuro was angered that his father accused him of making plans to wonder around. He did have plans, but had decided to wait for another day, when he wasn't supposed to be there, that way, he wouldn't have such a short time limit.
Kuro's father never returned. At the time he would usually get off work, Masami appeared in the hall, in order to take Kuro home. Kuro peered anxiously down the hall that his father had went before he disappeared. In fact, Kuro's father did not return till late that night. But Kuro was already asleep by then, having taken his pills which incidentally made him tired.
