Good night, golden girl.
Opened eyes and
Opened windows and
Drapes pulled tight against the wind…
Night blows in against you.
I’d cover you from the whisper, but I’d
Guess you like it, the sweet breath.
Hope you remember the way
That it curls around you,
Golden waves of dreamtime and
Of half-forgotten lullabies and
Lost-to-time songs sung to children.
Didn’t anyone ever tell you,
Even when the moon’s high in the sky,
Nighttime’s a passing thing?
Girl, you sleep so calm
In your soft child bed.
Remember this later,
Later, when the world starts to end.
