Dumb and Drummer
I've been trying to teach myself to play drums lately. It's fun, but maddening. I'm OK with snare + kick, but throw hi-hat into the mix and my kick leg goes totally to shit, or I start playing the kick pattern with my hi-hat hand. I'm not sure why my left hand and right foot seem to be so connected. It takes a lot of concentration to keep a simple beat going, but I figure if I keep at it I can master it. I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT, DAMMIT!!!!!! If I can get away from work during the day, I go to Ultrasound during their cheap walk-in hours, and at night I practice air drums or set out a couple pieces of paper to hit. I'm just trying to get the basics down for now. I can do some pretty crazy fills with my hands, but that is far less important than keeping a steady beat and knowing how to use my feet properly.
