It's new because it's fresh.
I'm trying to quickly remember and type down all the stuff that I've done lately that's been at all out of the ordinary or interesting.
Kaiju Big Battel - I went to this event at the Warsaw in Brooklyn with a couple friends who live near there. In case you don't know, it's like fake wrestling with people in rubber monster suits, and it's meant to be funny, which it is. The most amusing part of the night was realizing just how many nerds were gathered in this one club. It was like a sea of nerds. These guys probably never go to any clubs to see bands, but they were all there to see guys in rubber suits fake fighting. It was precious in a way. Some of those nerds had hot girlfriends though. How'd that happen? I'm guessing they were lured with the promise of drugs. Young hot girls all love drugs.
Oh, and Peelander Z was the opening act. They're amusing guys, though their music pretty much sucked. I've seen their video for "Steak" and it's fast, crazy, and full of attitude, but the rendition they played that night was slowed down and lacked the energy level I was expecting. Still, they kept their set entertaining via costume changes, human bowling, and at the end the drummer took out these gigantic novelty drumsticks and demolished a cymbal that they placed in center stage. He would stand up on his drum throne, leap over his drumset, and smash the cymbal with a giant stick. He did this several times until a piece of the cymbal flew off. I'm not sure if the jagged chunk of metal that flew off went into the crowd or not. I like to imagine that it did. Oh, and there was a big fat smelly old guy who kept slowly backing up into me during their set, which was pretty annoying.
The Wastes of Time - This was a play I attended that one of my coworkers was in. He's pursuing an acting career outside of work. The play was billed as a "gay play", which was no surprise to me because my coworker is openly gay. The play was damn good. It was well-acted, well-written, had an emotionally moving story, and never seemed slow or awkward. It also had a lot of humor, and all the actors were good at both comedic and dramatic acting. The space was neat too, because it was really small, seating only about 30 people, so you're right up near the action no matter where you sit. Oh, and this was hilarious: in between scenes they would pump 80s dance music and this dancer guy would come out and dance around to it. At one point he took his shirt off, and then the next time he came out he was shirtless and covered in glitter. There were even a few kiss scenes. I really enjoyed the play and thought it was a courageous, inspiring performance.
That's all for now. My lunch break is over.
Oh, and I've been listening to Tub Ring's song "Future Was Free" a lot lately. It's my favorite song at the moment.
