So I'm on Wikipedia earlier today, looking up some facts about my state. According to wiki, Bismarck was not to be the capitol. This I already knew, because there was talk about having Yankton as the capitol, back when Dakota Territory was going to be divided east and west, not north and south. But wiki says that Jamestown was chosen as the capitol. They even had all the state documents moved to Jamestown.

Now here's where it gets interesting. Some Bismarck residents decided to travel the 100 miles on horseback and in the middle of a January blizzard to "procure" the documents and held them hostage back in Bismarck. The legislature were forced to keep Bismarck as the capitol, but as a major flounce, they refused to vote Bismarck as the formal capitol city.

Yeah, this behavior so does not surprise me.
