CHALLENGE 26 SETTING: SCENERY AND PRODUCTION DESIGN
Scenery and Production Design of The Social Network

With Mark running all the way from a Bar to his Dorm, the audience is treated to a full view of Harvard Square and the sourrounding streets in Cambridge at night.
The vehicular and pedestrian traffic showing the life on and around campus even at a late hour.

In stark contrast the 5am shot of Charles River. The crew practice only disturbing sleeping birds. Harvard and Camebridge are asleep while the sun rises over Charles River.

One of my favorite Production Set Shots. With Mark sending Facemash.com out in the world, Fincher gives us an immediate collage of Harvard college life ca. 2003 by jumping from Dormrooms to coffeeshops, to libraries, to private parties, to hallways to laundryrooms. The detail and images in this scene are breathtaking down to the smallest detail.

Henley Royal Regatta. Certainly technically and visually one of the most memorable scene of the movie, (if you haven't seen it I suggest to check it out here) Fincher used tiltshifting sequences to draw the focus of the audience where he wants it, giving the whole scene an artistic edge.

The Deposition Rooms, the seating order down to the outside view and the level of drawn curtain are symbolic. I concentrated on the final scene of the movie (only showing the two other rooms in the lower half for contrast) because I think the imagery is significant. As the room empties, the audience is drawn to the window. For the first time the curtain is almost open giving away to a soectacular view of the city, the dusk giving the sky a facebook blue hue.
Mark came out on top and the Facebook blue sky is the limit.

The Facebook HQ ca. 2006. One of the first of many high tech companies that started to work with the now so popular open space, colorful offices to engage the creativity of their employees.
