Prison Break's and One Tree Hill's Reviews

Sep 06, 2008 22:32

It took me a while to sit down and start typing, but I eventually did it, so here are the reviews for the premieres of Prison Break and One Tree Hill. I’m just warning you, that especially the PB’s one is really LONG and with quite a dose of my ironic humor, as well as a lot of judging to the creators or those two shows and many personal “facts”. Proceed with your own responsibility.

PB Review

Most people will think that I am one of those lunatic PB fans, watching the show from the first or so episode. They couldn’t be more wrong. I started watching PB about 2 months before the airing of Season’s 4 premiere, and I owe it all to Michael & Sara and those YouTube users that have uploaded so many vids with them. This is how I started watching PB. I saw a video with the best TV-Shows kisses and I got introduced to the well known MiSa. Having just finished my exams, I downloaded from a fan site all the vids with them on seasons 1 & 2 and got to know them. Then, I asked my astonished friends to give me all 3 seasons’ DVD’s in order to properly watch the show. Astonished cause all those years they were begging me to see it and comment on it with my usual ironic way I was always responding “Dudes, a show with someone that has the prison’s map on a tattoo and gets into it in order to save his brother is so lame. I am never gonna watch something like this”. Little I knew at that time that after some years I would become a dedicated viewer and MiSa fan. MiSa… Once, while lining up in order to get into the class I heard some of my friends discussing about PB and I caught this line one of them said “Guys, it’s such a pity Sara died, I don’t know what they’ll do, but they better bring her back, it was so sweet…”. Of course I didn’t paid attention, but this line pretty much spoiled me and since the moment I started watching PB and MiSa’s scenes I knew that she was gonna die and been brought back in season 4, so I guess that may have an impact in the way I faced their scenes and PB in general. Maybe their devoted from the start fans had a different aspect and find my opinion totally wrong or weird or sth.

So, season 4. Oh boy, those two months where the most slow of my life! In a week I saw and knew everything about PB and I just couldn’t wait to see more pics and spoilers and scoop on s4. I wondered innumerous times how MiSa’s fans survived a whole season believing she was dead and so many months waiting for s4. They are true survivors to me.

But finally s4 started! With the delay of almost 2 days, anger, madness and tears I finally saw the precious s4 premiere! At start I was so excited I thought everything was perfect. But after MiSa’s reunion hug, everything seemed to be less flawless; suddenly I started to feel that this wasn’t what we expected and what all those MiSa fans fought for.

Sarah Wayne Callies proved once more how an amazing actress she is, she totally lived the role and gave the best of herself in order to satisfy all those fans that brought her back -an extra much appreciated thank you to be added to the long list of all those she have said in every single interview and appearance of hers-

Wentworth… Wentworth is a special case right now. As many know I am really… fond of him (LOL), but seriously, I didn’t enjoy him as much as I did in previous seasons. I am not judging people by their looks (especially since my looks is… not good) but an actor with the honor to have such a huge fan club and everyone’s belief that he can make it through another one season, should try to look his better for his fans and for the show’s needs. He has totally abandoned himself and his man boobs and -oh god!- chin and necks connection fill the whole screen and really disappointed me, since he used to be ULTRA-HOT and now in most of the scenes he’s… not. According to the medical standards he cannot be considered fat, but according to his former self standards he definitely is, and that has a big impact on the show (and on my sanity for crying out loud!). Plus, his whole acting has come to bore me, he is just predictable, the scenes I really liked his acting in the premiere can be count with the fingers of my one hand. He MUST find his old self and try something new with his acting, at least for his fan’s sake.

Since I don’t like Dom I don’t feel like commenting a lot on him, but I must admit that due to Went’s not so good appearance (both looks and acting), he looked hotter and better than usual, even if his humor and thinking way remain stubbornly the same (shit LOL).

Wade Williams suddenly stepped out from the dark and left me with my mouth open with his excellent performance. I totally prefer that version of Bellick and Wade’s acting is making me wanna see more Bellick scenes. That’s totally an accomplishment. Talking about excellent, I must mention Amaury! Sucre is by far my favorite character and Amaury played an important role on that. His facial expressions, the way he talks, everything just suit Sucre’s character, who is one of the most unique characters on TV-Shows in general. Goofy but smart, caring but hesitant, once he realize that someone is in his heart, he does everything in order to protect and help him. Is there a guy like that somewhere out there for me?

Danay’s role served only as a background for Dom so nothing to comment on her. T-Bag starts to find his old self and Robert Knepper tries his best to picture that, but still I miss the T-Bag from s1, but I still have faith, cause from what I’ve heard on Robert’s and Jody’s interviews, T-Bag’s and Gretchen’s union sounds like heaven (or better hell? LOL) to me. I always like some of the bad guys in each show, and my two favorite villains teaming up is really good news to me. So I expect some improvement on T-Bags role and character. Gretchen is exactly the same as in s3 with Jody playing all her cards and being the winner of the show after all. Her acting is the one I enjoy the most after Sarah’s, so only words of “well done” for her.

Chris Vance was always kinda neutral as an actor for me and he remains the same in s4, so I really don’t know what to say for him. I think that he was always the man between heaven and hell, good and bad, yin and yang(LOL) etc, but he never showed that conflict well enough, and so he was on the background. I loved the way he falls when he’s shot though (LOL, I’m a bitch I know it). And William Fichtner of course! I recently discovered that he played on a movie with Jody Foster and while I was amused at first, cause I never thought he would play with stars as her, I realized later “why not?”. He is such a good actor and he along with the guy that played Kellerman (I forgot his name) pretty much were the solid base for s2’s plot. I was sorry that Kellerman was killed, I really loved this figure, but Mahone -or Alex as Michael will make us announce him in a while- with the outstanding acting of William, is more than enough to lead PB and make us fan girls like PB for other things except MiSa. He definitely is my favorite character after Sucre.

As for the new characters, Michael Rapaport truly makes his character Don Self a unique figure on the show and his acting can easily be considered as one of the most enjoying on the premiere. I never watched Friends regularly, but I heard that he had a funny role in it and everyone wondered how he could play in a dramatic show, but as far as I am concerned he really fitted in PB even if his acting does have a comedy vibe; what the heck, PB needs a character like this; because it’s a drama show it doesn’t mean that you can’t smile a little with one’s of the characters lines. James Hiroyuki Liao also adds something special to the show; I really liked how Roland from the “kid on the corner” turned into an essential part of the team. And his acting is also good, not splendid or sth, but acceptable, especially since his lines really suit his style. On the other hand I find Cress Williams’ performance less than okay. I expected more by Wyatt’s character and Cress is not giving them. Wyatt is an interesting character, but in no way can he be compared to Gretchen, T-Bag or Mahone of s2. They are just a lot superior to him, and Cress should work harder if he wants his character to be among them.

And now it’s time to talk about MiSa… What can I say about them? I want to share with you so many things, but I don’t know from where to start… Okay, let’s take it from here; they definitely are NOT the MiSa I know. It’s like they mutated into another couple. Like the same two actors playing in another series. Everyone says that s1 glorious MiSa moments can never return. I agree on the glorious moments. Especially to the moments. MiSa weren’t even supposed to be in s1. They had a few moments lost in a huge amount of irrelevant with them scenes. When I downloaded and saw all the s1 MiSa clips in a row, I thought “what a love they have created”. But when I sat down and saw the whole episodes, at some points I even forgot there were MiSa. I forgot which the last scene of them was and what had been said between them. They were totally lost among the rest of the scenes, and they never gave you the this-is-the-series’-couple feeling. In s2 everything was different. At last even on the first 9 episodes, where they were separated, they gave you this feeling. Sara was at last an active part of the plot, not just the poor-doctor-that-had-to-be-deceived. She was once more the key holder, but this time she teamed up with the rest characters and she became an essential character of PB -as the writers realized after they beheaded her. MiSa finally became a big part of the show, no more lost, but equal moments with the rest of the characters moments. But still s1 and s2 were connected; they were the same MiSa, just a little more… organized and important. S4’s MiSa stand alone. No connection whatsoever with s1, s2 or even the MiSa plot of s3. There is this superficial connection, but nothing more; this deeper MiSa feeling is all gone.

Of course I enjoyed their moments. Of course my heart skipped a beat every time I saw them together. Of course they took my breath away as every time. It is only natural after all this waiting (that was too little for me compared to the months other waited). But the feeling? Nah, the so familiar MiSa feeling was lost… From one hand they give us more kissing, hugging -and sex as the writer said, but I will come to this later-, than we expected, but on the other hand, we wanted all these in the right time. Sara’s soul is traumatized after the torturing, both physically and emotionally; she went through being held by the company, how come she just acts normal, as if nothing happened? The reunion was what I expected, but after that everything collapsed. Seriously she and Michael talking about Nika like this, laughing, having sex?? For God’s sake, this writer is totally UNAWARE of women’s psychology. He totally spoiled MiSa’s feeling, turned them into a couple I don’t recognize anymore and even if I will keep seeing s4 I am afraid that MiSa’s good old days are gone and are never coming back. So let’s congratulate all those who contributed to loosing the MiSa we all knew and loved; maybe they will make them have wild sex in the company’s headquarters; the way they presented them, even that is possible.

OTH Review

Seriously, that was NOT s6 premiere! God, I was so sad when s4 was over, cause we thought that it was gonna be the last, and I was so excited when they announced there would be a s5, but know, I am starting to think that it should end on s4. OTH just repeats itself; there is no more good drama to be showed. I mean love triangles, accidents, loss of dreams, deaths, what else can happen to the leading drama queens and kings of TV? Apparently a lot more, as s5 and s6 show. I do love OTH and I do love Naley so much, but I’ve come to my limits… It seems to me that in front of even more money they sacrificed the quality this show once had.

Nanny Carrie, get LOST, we are soooo bored seeing you, can’t you just LEAVE? We had enough psychos, thank you! The whole revenging-Dan-now-that-he’s-about-to-get-his-heart-transplant scenario simply sucks balls. As Dan’s role in s5 and s6 in general. And Nathan? Enough with the everything-against-me-when-it-comes-to-basketball scheme, I can’t take any more of that! First the point shaving, then the accident, now your back hurting again? Seriously, get OVER it! And Leyton? Oh god, I’ve never felt so bored in my life!... I am a Brucas fan, but as things turned out I supported Leyton rather than Lindsay-Lucas, so I was happy to see him choosing her, but please, it was so fluffy and cheesy and boring!

I like Bethany’s voice, but I really don’t think that trying out the whole singing thing again will make things get better. The era of s2 and s3 is long gone.

I only enjoy Q’s and Jamie’s relationship and characters, the rest are just tragic… All the couples that I loved have lost that magic and as far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna see that season only out of “obligation” and curiosity, nothing more. Oh, and to see how bad things will turn out for Brooke. I thing her “debate” with her mom was good at start, got stupid later, but the idea of Brooke fighting for her company can make OTH a little less boring, since her character is the top one in this show.

So, these were my reviews, written while I am holding a shield, so in case you wanna throw things at me, feel free to do so; my mind won’t change even if I spend a night alone with Gretchen and her techniques. I am really sad and disappointed by both the new seasons especially as far as the couples are concerned, but I still have a little faith, that scenes like the unforgettable train kiss in s2 of PB will return and make MiSa find their old self. Unfortunately, I have almost none faith left for OTH; they started screwing it a long time ago, and it’s almost impossible to find it’s old self. But I guess “You never know” ;)
