Versailles has announced an indefinite hiatus. Which is different from disbandment. Sort of. I'm not wholly convinced that we will receive anything more from them.
Here's why:
History of hiatuses doesn't instill much hope in this one. The band has said that they don't really have a direction for the future right now and that that is why they have decided to take time off to pursue personal/musical goals elsewhere. Rumors are that either their contract has expired/has not been renewed, and that ever aggravating "musical differences" BS that bands often cite as a cause for dissolution. But none of that is yet confirmed. They plan on releasing their 'farewell' album, entitled Versailles, after which there will be a local tour and a 'last live' in... December? Activities officially cease by the close of the year. As it were, titling their album Versailles is a bad omen in itself after the release of "ROSE".
I'm not exactly sure how to feel right now. I'm trying not to get too emotional about it, but the idea of never getting to see them live, or tell them how much I love them, or ANYTHING is borderline horrific to me. And for a band whose entire story is wrapped around the stem of an eternal rose... it's a little disappointing (and I mean this in none the cruelest way possible) that they might only last five years. I think secretly I wanted to believe in... not eternity, but a sort of eternity. I wanted them to last longer than this. Eh, but so did everyone, I suppose.
A beautiful rose, yet each one has its thorns. And each one must die. Hopefully Versailles' has a little bit more life left in it.
