Seven Exits Long

Okay, so the weekend was fun. Intense, but fun. We did about 30 hours of driving in total (although I guess I can't really complain about that since I only did a couple of hours) for about 25 hours of non-driving amusement/sleeping/eating; the concert was rad, especially being introduced to awesome folks such as Andru Bemis (dude shreds on a banjo-lele) and experiencing Reverend Peyton's amazing jam faces. Highlights included "How Big Is Tacoma?" as sung by Andru and Jason Webley, "My Brother Stole A Chicken From The Fort Wayne Zoo" as sung by the afrementioned Rev. Peyton with some of the women at the show acting as his backup singers (the "Jason Webley Tomato Singers"), and "Electric Blanket" as sung by Jason and Amanda Palmer. It was really a great night, and quite an intimate show despite there being about a thousand people in the crowd...Jason and all his musician friends seemed to be having the best time ever along with the audience, and it was a great feeling. Mike took a billion and one pictures, and as soon as he uploads the good ones I might think about remembering to post a link here. Someday.

Seeing Mom was good times although our stay was rather brief, but it was nice to dig into some ginger-lime barbecue, cuddle with Toby (who is missing four teeth now due to bad oral hygiene) and generally soak up some of that "home" feeling before having to get on the road again. I wish we'd been able to bum around Seattle as originally planned, but at least we got to drop into Powell's on the way down, which was quite rad, although the erotica section was sorely lacking. (I wanted to find a hilariously terrible piece of "urban erotica" I saw featured on weepingcock some moons back, but alas.) In the end I managed to restrain myself (very admirably, I thought), and only bought four books: Ursula Le Guin's Three Hainish Novels (which has the raddest cover ever) and Buffalo Gals and Other Animal Presences; Richard Adams' The Plague Dogs; and a $2 copy of four of Aristophanes' plays.

Anyway, here I am now, back in California. Working at Dal's continues to be fairly easy in comparison to working with Dale, although it's a bit tough to actually make sure Dal drinks the stuff I mix up for him. I've been incredibly lazy about unpacking, mostly because I can't really figure out where to put stuff, and am taking up two rooms like a big lout. It's just so hard to find the motivation, but I'm hoping that getting the larger furniture installed will encourage me to hop to it in time to show everything off to Mom when she comes by to see the place while she's down here helping Matt move. At least I'm not crowding the public areas in the house too much...

Trying to decide whether to go through with the original plan of making egg foo yung for dinner, or to cop out and just eat beans and cookies until hunger subsides. Will keep everybody updated on this truly important decision.

Edit: Salad it was! I can pretend I've been eating healthy all day between this and the leftover catfish, ignoring the half an avocado I put in there and the cake I had for breakfast. Go me! (Also, why does canned cranberry have to be seasonal? All I want is a little to put on turkey sandwiches, WinCo, why you gotta let me down like this?)
