Woof.
Finished reading Monster last night, and got-DAMN. That was some intense stuff. I actually had a bunch of weird dreams about it afterwards, which I guess I deserve for staying up late to finish it instead of just going to sleep. Anyway, hoo-ee. Grimmer is now one of my favorite characters forever. Before I start in on another big read (20th Century Boys is like twice as long? Good lord), I need to find a couple quick one-shots to clear my palate, I think. Time to go digging through the onemanga website!
Also I started playing a point-and-click adventure horror game called Prodigal yesterday (many thanks to Zoe for bringing it to my attention), and I'm having a lot of fun with that. If nothing else, it keeps me from wasting too much of my time trolling the internet. I'm about ready to punch the Arch-Lord, though. Him and his damn barbecue chicken. I'd rather be back with the cow demon.
Mike and I have been watching the first season of Dexter pretty assiduously the past few days...think we're up to episode 8 now or something. I was surprised at how much a lot of it deviates from the books, and while there are some things I wish they hadn't changed I can't say I can complain, it's an awesome show and Michael C. Hall is weirdly dreamy for a kind of strange-looking guy.
Okay, in order to keep this from being a boring "how has she been entertaining herself lately?" post, a slightly NSFW meme courtesy of Jessica. The last question may be revealing waaaay too much about me, so don't click if you're not prepared.
1. If you could only ever eat one cultural genre of cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I'm trying to decide if I should factor in the problems of what I myself know how to prepare and how easy/difficult it would be to get certain ingredients that show up regularly in certain regional cuisines, and while Italian would probably be easiest to cook and has the pasta thing going on, I think I would, in the end, have to be predictable and choose Thai. It's got a lot of healthy ingredients, there's a lot of variety in the dishes, and I don't think I would miss regular old slabs of steak much if I could have yellow curry. Plus, Thai tea.
2. Coffee or tea, FOREVER?
Much as I enjoy coffee, I gotta say tea. It's more versatile.
3. Would you rather only be able to regularly see and spend time with one of your (sets of) parents and only have phone/email contact with the other for years at a time, or never be able to casually talk to either but actively visit both for, say, a month a year?
Ooh, damn. You know how to ask the hard questions, woman. I'd say the latter because going to Mexico for a month a year would rock, but I love me some chatty e-mails with Mom and nonsensical IMs with Dad. I guess I would have to go with the former, and regularly visit Ma and Everett and keep internet/phone contact with Dad, especially since that's likely how things are going to work out in real life.
4. Which decade (or era, for that matter) of fashion would you call your absolute favorite that you would wear every day if it were possible (and not potentially horribly uncomfortable. XD)? (20, 50s, Renaissance, etc.)
Oh, this one's easy. No question, 1930s East Coast. But--only if I could swap between men's and women's clothing. I want to be able to rock the suspenders and vest if I so choose. (There is nothing not sexy about looking like you just stepped out of The Sting.)
5. (I HAVE to, you understand. XD) Same as Jerry's #4, if it had to be one or the other, would you rather your permanent fictitious partner be a girl with a dick or a guy with a vagina?
Oh my, I have to choose between Buck Angel and the school nurse from Bible Black? I think I'd have to have some experience with both before truly deciding, but based on pure speculation I think I'll go with the man-gina. It would be an interesting change of pace.
Comment on this post and I'll give you five questions of your own to be answered in your own journal. Ya dig?
Also, Jessica, you totally gave Vicious the smackdown in the GSS Higurashi thread. Go you.
Edit: For anybody who needs a laugh, yesterday's
pictures for sad children cracks me the hell up, mostly because it reminds me of 98% of UCSC's student body.
