I just don't understand how people think they can call themselves christians just because they believe in God. It's sad to think so many people think they are saved just because they said a scripted prayer. They don't go to church, don't read their bibles (if they even own one), and don't live their lives to glorify God at all...Why do people think ( Read more... )

I'm not too sure who you're criticizing here. Is it the ones who claim to be Christians and don't really believe in Jesus or those who believe in Jesus and still sin? It seems to me that we all sin... even if we truly believe in Jesus and work our best to represent him we will sin. We all will. The fact that we all sin and can never be perfect is a basic understanding in Christianity. But, if you believe in Jesus you're promised to be forgiven if you ask... regardless of the sin.

Shouldn't we have compassion for those who stray instead of criticism? I think instead of writing angry posts about them there should be a post to try and understand why they left the flock. Perhaps even Jesus would rather see was trying to bring them back to Him instead of breaking them down.

First of all, it's not an angry post. Could you please define what you mean by criticize?

I have compassion on them otherwise I wouldn't bother to say anything and I would just let them stray away. No where did I say that I cut anyone down. I can question someone without cutting them down. I even stated that I would want someone to question me.

Also, I never said we can be perfect in our understanding either. Some have no understanding at all.

When you aren't even beginning to change your ways you have to ask yourself: "Do I really love Jesus?" I know we will never cease from totally sinning on this side of the grave, but if the holy spirit is working in you, you will see a change. You will desire to serve Jesus and obey him.

You have totally misconstrued my post. I am sorry if it wasn't clear enough, but it's better to assume the best intentions then to be petty and assume the worst.

- "I just don't understand how people think they can call themselves christians just because they believe in God." By definition anyone who believes in God (or Jesus more accurately) and what he did for us is a Christian. I don't think we denounce anyone as a Christian because they sin or struggle with certain things. We each struggle with something - even the most faithful Christians. As you said "we will never cease from totally sinning ( ... )

Many people believe in God, but not Jesus. Or they believe in Jesus but not what he did. That is the point I was trying to make. Don't read to far into what I am saying. I understand that you were considering it to be another "harsh criticize" and maybe that is why it came off the way it did to you.

- "are we not to hold them accountable?" No, we are not to hold them accountable. It is God's job to hold them accountable. God his here to judge - we are here to accept. All that we can do is try and help them become closer to God.Is there biblical evidence for your view? I think we are to hold our brothers accountable. It should be done in the love of Christ of course ( ... )
