This weekend was pretty good. But lately, the weekends go by way to fast. Before I know it, it's 9pm on Sunday night.
I love my job, but things have been a bit stressful there lately. More so, because there are going to be a lot of changes happening really soon there. Lots of teachers switching around and moving, and some may not be coming back. With all these changes the gossip train has been running full speed ahead, and I am so sick of hearing everything. Some days I feel like I am back in high school listening to everyone gab about who or what, and then contradicting themselves the next day. It's frustrating when you care about these people, and want the best for them, but you know that they have to make the decisions they need to make by themselves.
Other than that I have two parent conferences coming up that I am NOT looking forward to. One of the kids I just 100% feel like I have failed. I mean, I was thinking about it while in the shower today, and I don't even have a clue what I am going to say to this parent, or what the point of the conference even is. I think there are issues here that I can't even begin to know what to do with. On the bright side (and also stressful side) my principal will be joining me in both of my upcoming conferences. The other conference has a very clear purpose, and I know what I have to say for that one. It's just stressful, because I don't know how the parent is going to react. I really and truly do want the best for these kids. I wish we had a little more time together this year to get them on the right track. The year is passing by way too fast!
So, back to the weekend...
Friday night was good. I was very very tired but ended up going out to dinner with mom. It was nice. Good food and good conversation. I think we have both been stressed over the past few weeks. Then I came home and actually watched a movie on demand "Because I said so." It's a cute chicky movie I had seen before...but every once in awhile you just need one of those girls nights.
Saturday was both fun and a little disappointing. I was able to sleep in and really enjoyed that. Then I met up with my brothers and we traveled to playhouse square's Allen theater to see "Phonk!" The third grade from my school had gone to see the show earlier in the week and the teachers had said it was really good. My brothers and I had decided to go, because of the wonder of smartseats. I love those things. It was a discovery theater program (meant for families) so it was much shorter than normal theater performances, but it was still pretty good. Basically Phonk is a group somewhat like stomp. They are scrap metal artists who then use their scrap metal pieces as instruments. Everything that they use is 100% recycled from trash. I think my favorite piece was one called "plates and bowls" Basically they cut the bottoms off of camping cookware and created these really cool sounds using a small mallet and pieces of different sizes. They also made an "annoyaphonium" and a "plankaphone" that were pretty cool. You can check out their website for more fun. I wish I would have known a little more about the program before they came...we just did Earth day/recycling stuff with our kids a few weeks ago...it would have been awesome to take them to see this show too.
I ran into an old friend after the show and we stopped and caught up for a little bit. This left me feeling kind of bummed, because it is one of those friends that you used to be so close with, and then grew apart. To be completely honest, this person really did try to keep in touch, and I was the one that dropped the ball so many times. That's the hard part of growing up and growing apart. On the bright side, this person is doing awesome, getting married soon, and seems really really happy. So I am happy for them. :)
After the afternoon phonk show, I hit up the mall to do a little shopping. I totally rocked out an awesome sale at Bath and Body Works. They had a 5 for $30 sale going on. AND I had a $10 off a purchase of $30 or more that they allowed me to use! Plus - the hand soaps were also on sale for 5 for 10 dollars. So, this is how everything worked out. I walked out of the store with 5 different body creams, and 5 different hand soaps for $12. I literally saved like $50. It was amazing. Then I got a great deal on something cute at Forever 21 and my free undies from VS! Good times!
I was bummed, because I was supposed to go out to what everyone keeps calling an "amazing" winery in Avon Lake, but everyone on the face of the planet was at the Indians game and I didn't want to drive all that way by myself. (I wouldn't have even been able to have any wine either!) So, I ended up chillin' at home, working on some school stuff, catching up with a friend, and vegging out in front of the tv. A good night anyway...
Today was mother's day, and I got up early and hit up the 9am mass. Then headed over to the 'rents where we departed for brunch at this restaurant in Valley View called "Your's Truly." Danny raves about this place, and honestly it was pretty good. The food was very good, and the OJ was AWESOME! The whole vibe of the place is cozy and quaint. I think the fam is going to go back again sometime in the summer months, and then maybe bike along the towpath afterwards. Mom was happy. We got her a new ipod and I bought her a necklace. Then we visited with Grandma (where I ate 4 of her world famous brownies -yes I am a piggie - but they had just come out of the oven...so who could blame me.)
So, things are good and I know this blog post was LONG so I think I'd better stop. Time to grade a few papers, maybe read for awhile and then off to bed.
Have a great week everyone! Love to you all!
