Shameless Self Promotion

Aug 09, 2009 20:58

I apologize for the shameless self-promotion, but I'm designing "Carol Channing Raises the Roof" on Sept 6, 2009. Ms. Channing will be sharing selections from her new album of gospel music and talking about her Arts Organization. The funds raised from the benefit performance will go to replacing the roof of the Altadena Community Church United Church of Christ (an open and affirming congregation). It should be a great show. The press release is after the cut.

The press release:
Tireless Broadway and screen legend Carol Channing cares about today's children, and she believes that exposing them to music, dance, theater and art in school can increase their learning and creativity. "Studies show that children who get music and arts in their schools read better, achieve more and drop out less," says Carol. "These same children show better scores in math and science too, and often it only takes one subject to capture their hearts and keep them in school."
The PTA and the Carol Channing Foundation are working to bring the arts back into schools, and Carol is looking for your help. "This is about our children, our grandchildren, our country," she continues. "We don't need to save the arts. We need to help the arts save our children."
Carol is also planning a fun, "unplugged" evening of music, memories and humorous storytelling featuring a preview of her upcoming gospel CD, For Heaven's Sake, plus her signature tunes such as "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Hello, Dolly!" The ACC-UCC presents Carol Channing RAISES THE ROOF! event takes place Sunday September 6 at the Altadena Community Church in Altadena, CA, and it's all to benefit ACCs Roof Repair Fund.
