Secret Relationship TV Tropes Picspam

I decided to do a “secret relationship” tv tropes picspam for picspammy. I've always been interested in secret relationships in fiction. I think having it a secret gives the relationship more excitement in fiction. Since they are keeping it from the rest of the world, this usually makes the relationship bond stronger and passionate.

The secret relationship trope is when two characters are in a relationship together and keep it a secret from everyone. The reason for keeping it a secret could be for many reasons such as one of the people being an authority figure (e.g. teacher, boss) or their family/friends/society being unaccepting of their relationship. They usually are pretty good at keeping the relationship hidden, but eventually they will be found out.

The most obvious secret relationship in fiction is Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet fall in love, but are members of rival families so they have to keep their relationship a secret. Photos include different images of Romeo and Juliet portrayed in artwork and movies.

Jack and Rose keep their relationship a secret in Titanic. Rose is engaged to Cal. When she meets Jack, they form a connection and fall in love, sneaking around seeing each other. Cal and other people are suspicious and their relationship is eventually figured out when Cal finds a naked picture of Rose that Jack has drawn. Their relationship is tragically ended when Jack dies, though the film shows that Rose and Jack had a deep connection.

Jenna, the main character, is stuck in an abusive relationship with her husband. She falls for her physician, Jim, when she becomes pregnant. They have an affair. Though their relationship and the baby help Jenna get out of her abusive relationship, she doesn't end up staying with him.

Jess is a soccer player who falls for her coach, Joe. The relationship is complicated not just because he is her coach but because her parents are unaccepting of Jess playing soccer and don't want Jess dating guys who aren't Indian. Her best friend and teammate, Jules, also likes Joe making a love triangle. Joe and Jess end up together in the end.

South of Nowhere follows the relationship of Ashley and Spencer. They are gay and even though Ashley is open about her sexuality, Spencer is not at first. They keep the relationship hidden from Spencer's family and the general public even though their close friends know about them. Spencer's mom eventually walks in on them and their relationship becomes public.

Degrassi is a high school show that focuses on many characters so there have been a few secret relationships. Emma and Peter (top right) secretly date because Peter is enemies with Emma's best friend, Manny. Manny dates Jay, a guy who has a bad reputation (top left). Initially they pretend to be in a relationship in an scheme for Manny to get more freedom from her parents. They pretend to be engaged, but over the course of time, they actually develop feelings for each other.

A “hot for student” relationship is seen with Paige and her teacher, Mr. Oleander (bottom row). They keep their relationship hidden for a while, but Manny catches them kissing. Later, Paige and Manny get in a hallway fight where Paige and Mr. Oleander's relationship is made public.

This show focuses on gymnasts who are working hard to be in the Olympics. As part of being a gymnast, they are not allowed to date guys. Of course, since it's television, almost all of the gymnasts have some sort of secret relationship. The biggest relationship is Kaylie and her boyfriend Carter, who are both gymnasts (top right). Another one of the gymnasts, Lauren, likes Carter too and they end up sleeping together, forming a love triangle. Emily, another one of the gymnasts, has had two relationships that she keeps hidden (bottom left). Payson, the fourth gymnast, shows feelings for another guy at the gym, Nicky, but he eventually ends up leaving the gym (bottom right). On top of that, Sasha, the coach of the gymnasium, has a secret relationship with Summer, Lauren's dad's ex girlfriend.

Pretty Little Liars is a new show I'm addicted to. The show revolves all around secrets so of course there's a couple secret relationships. Aria, a high school student, meets a guy at a bar. She later finds out he's her teacher (top right and bottom left). Instead of not seeing each other though, they continue to see each other in secret. Another character, Spencer, kisses her sister's fiancee, Wren and right now, they seem to be continuing their relationship. Emily (bottom right), another one of the girls in the show, is gay. Though her close friends know, she keeps this from the public. She has a connection with her new neighbor, Maya, and they are shown holding hands and kissing. None of these relationships have been revealed yet, but it seems like they will eventually in the future.

Feel free to post secret relationships you've seen.
