Best of 2009

I just found this community picspammy and decided to do their current challenge. This is some of my favorite music, movies, TV shows and events from 2009. I thought it'd be a nice entry to end the year on. Enjoy. :)

By the way, the cover image has three of my favorite photos I took during 2009. They are taken from 3 different homes I live in. The first is from my porch of my home at college, the second is from a beach near a summer home my family has and the third is from the backyard of the home I grew up in.

1.) Movies

There were a lot of good movies that came out in 2009 and there's still a lot I have to see. These were just some of my favorites - Time Traveler's Wife, (500) Days of Summer, Where the Wild Things Are and Julie & Julia.

2.) Bands

These were my top listened to bands in 2009 according to my Last FM - Copeland, Elliott Smith, Fall Out Boy and The Starting Line. The sad thing is all these bands are pretty much broken up (Copeland just broke up, Elliott Smith died, Fall Out Boy are probably going to break up soon and The Starting Line are on hiatus).

3.) Concerts

These are personal photos from some concerts I went to this year. The concerts in order are As Tall as Lions (August), Mae (October), Taking Back Sunday (November) and Gold Motel (December). I wrote about all these concerts in musicmonday if you want to see more details and photos.

4.) Albums

This was the best I could narrow down my favorite albums from 2009. There were a lot of good releases - some from some of my favorite artists (Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday, Mae) and some from artists I just discovered (Jeremy Enigk, Deas Vail, fun.)

5.) TV Shows

These are the shows I tune in to every week. I usually don't watch much TV, but I love all these shows. The shows are The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Make It or Break It, Gossip Girl, 90210, Degrassi, Vampire Diaries, Desperate Housewives and Drop Dead Diva (which I actually did 3 papers on for a class in rhetorical criticism). Make It or Break It, Vampire Diaries and Drop Dead Diva are new shows this year.

6.) Books

I did a lot of reading for fun this year. The Time Traveler's Wife and Slam were probably my favorite books I read. There's currently a few books I'm reading now, such as Stargirl and Under the Tuscan Sun, but I didn't want to put those up yet because I'm not finished with them yet.

7.) Experiences

2009 was a good year for me and I had lots of good experiences. The first photo is from my first craft show I did in July for my Etsy shop. It was a lot of fun and you can read more about it in the archives at my craft blog. The second photo is more of a public event and is of the Obama family because it was their first year in office. The third photo is of my cousin Pam from her wedding. It was the first wedding I've been to. The fourth photo is the photo I took for Worldwide Moment, a project where a bunch of people around the world take a photo at the same time to represent a moment of peace.

The next four are all from Italy. I got to go to Italy for the first time this year. It was my first time being abroad and second time out of the country. The first two photos are from Venice, the third photo is from Rome and the fourth is from Verona.

8.) Hobbies

I discovered a lot of new activities this year. The first photo is a painting I did for my Painting class. Even though I've taken art classes before and painted for fun, it was my first painting class at my college. The second photo is a photograph I did for my final in my Photography class. It was my first time taking a photography class ever and I learned how to develop film. I started going horse back riding again this year. I used to ride when I was little (up until junior high), but stopped for a while. I'm glad I'm doing it again. I also took an ice skating course last semester. I used to figure skate when I was real little, but I learned a lot of new stuff.

Hope everyone had a good 2009 and an even better 2010. :)
