2013: A Year in Review

Jan 04, 2014 22:52

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Celebrated a wedding anniversary, went to Disney fort he first time without my parents, missed work to go to the funeral of a friend.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm honestly not sure what my resolutions were, but I did run more. I run a few 5ks, a 10k, and a 15k in the heat of a July day in Utica.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Did they ever?! My friends Mike & Katie had a baby girl named Annabelle, my cousins Meghan and Greg had a girl named Sophie, and my cousins Kerri and Patrick had a girl named Leila. Two of those little girls share the middle name of Rose, so that's pretty much off the table when I have children.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my mom's old friend Wendy.

5. What countries did you visit?
Just here. Not too much traveling this year. I did visit distant cousins in Georgia, though, which was nice.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A house. I am ready to have room for all of these cats we're acquiring.

7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?
September 16th.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Made it through my first year of marriage, which is apparently supposed to be the hardest? It didn't feel hard (thankfully). I cannot say enough good things about living with your partner before you decide to get married.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Staying in my job. Not taking any major steps to make changes career-wise.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I rolled my ankle a couple of times, both while running. Tee second time was in the 1st mile of a 10k I was running. I finished, though, and I consider that a pretty major accomplishment.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A trip to Disney for Mike and myself.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Kristin's. She finished her Masters program, graduated, and got a new job. She's moving up!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Honestly, a close relative's.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, car payments, student loan, saving for a house.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My first year of marriage, cutting all of my hair off, bringing Mike on a bunch of new experiences (like Disney and the tree in NYC).

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
"Let It Go" from the Frozen soundtrack.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you
i. happier or sadder? Sadder.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, I think.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Traveling, reading, running.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating popcorn, holding onto anger, worried about things out of my control.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
We went down to spend time with Mike's family on Christmas Eve, ate a delicious dinner, opened presents, then went to sleep. IN the morning we headed down to SI to spend time with my family. We spent the night down there and on the way back we briefly stopped at Mike's aunt's house before continuing home. For the first time in a long time, I had the whole week of Christmas off from work. It was amazing.

22. Did you fall in love in 2013?
I was already in love. I just found new things to love about Mike and new ways to love him.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Once Upon a Time

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.

25. What was the best book you read?
The Fault In Our Stars. I cried so much.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Arctic Monkeys

27. What did you want and get?
New experiences

28. What did you want and not get?
Healthy ways to deal with stress and anger.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Blackfish

30. What did you do on your birthday?
I was feeling very depressed about this birthday for no other reason that the year had not been going so well. On the day of my birthday I had to work, and when I arrived there, Aprill had decorated the back room with Tangled party decorations. We had a surprise pizza party, which made me really happy. That night I didn't go to Bombers or any of the usual spots, but instead spent a quiet night home. That weekend Mike surprised me by gathering some of my closest friends at my favorite diner for breakfast, which was super sweet.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less worrying.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Soccer mom without the kids.

33. What kept you sane?
A new computer, Mike, texts from Kristin, trivia Wednesdays, friends celebrating major moments in their lives.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jennifer Lawrence (like everybody else).

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
A lot of them. The gang rapes in India, the continued ignorance on Bengazi, etc.

36. Who did you miss?
Everyone

37. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't meet Sara this year, but we did get closer. It's nice to have a new friend up here.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
There are no guarantees here and nothing is permanent.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
So this is the new year
And I have no resolutions
For self assigned penance
For problems with easy solutions

So everybody put your best suit or dress on
Let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
As thirty dialog's bleed into one

I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then I could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways
There'd be no distance that can hold us back

40. What are your plans for 2014?
Do some more soul searching and determine what I can be doing to get the most out of myself and hopefully buy a house!

year, 2013
