Bridesmaids and Hebrew Tattoos

My cousin is getting married. She's 23. That seems to be the magic age, apparently. Although, to be fair, she just got engaged like two days ago, so it's probably going to be a while before the wedding. This past August we had discussed the fact that if she were to become engaged, that my cousin Dana and myself would be bridesmaids. I reminded her, via text message, of this promise. I don't know why I'm in such a hurry to be a bridesmaid, though. It will probably be the first of at least three before I get to do my wedding. And I think we all know the saying with three times and bridesmaids. And what's the big rush with these people anyway? Getting married so young. It seems like all I write about in here anymore is about all the weddings that are popping up. And I know it's stupid and irrational, but part of me feels like I'm going to be cut as a bridesmaid because I'm like the distant cousin that lames out on family cruises and goes to sleep at 1am. Or 11pm. Whatever. So I might be making an entry in like 6 months explaining how my cousin couldn't afford 12 bridesmaids and I seemed like the best one to boot because my parents chose to move out of Brooklyn when I was 5 months old and I can't party as hard as the rest of them and I got chunky. And that sentence contained a life time of baggage in it. I love my cousins. I truly do. I just feel like a bit of an outsider sometimes when I'm with them.

I think I finally decided on a tattoo. I think I'm going to have the letters Cheit and Yod tattooed onto a part of my body I can see. These two letters together mean "chai", which is Hebrew for "living". It is also the source of my Hebrew name, Chaya, which my research has shown is quite a popular Hebrew name. I feel like I need a reminder every once in a while that I am, in fact, alive, and in the grand scheme of things, I don't have too much time on this Earth. I need to start making the most of my life. Perhaps this tattoo will be a driving force for me to do that.
