Victory

So the last time we had a new president in office, I was 14 years old and I was more concerned with adjusting to a public high school than I was with a change in governmental power. That being said, I do not remember how the media portrayed George W. Bush before he entered the presidency. I'm sue I could Google past news stories, and such, but I don't really care to. The whole point of this blurb is that I've been reading a lot about Barack Obama lately (and yes, I have developed a small crush on him). Today I read a story about how when he is sworn in, he's probably going to have to surrender his Blackberry. And tonight I watched the 60 Minutes interview with him, which portrayed him as a very down to earth kind of guy. He spoke about how he misses being able to go on walks around town, on his own. He will never, ever be able to do that again. Even when he's his term (or term) is over, he will still have Secret Service protecting him until the day he dies. But I digress. Right now he seems so human. Television and internet reporters seem to want to get to know who Barack Obama the man is. It will be interesting to see how the media's slant on him changes in January of 2009. Because once Obama is sworn into office, he becomes more than a man. People will hold him to higher expectations. And maybe that's not fair, and he is after all only human, but that's the way it will be. America, and the world, will hold him up to unnaturally high expectations. The man hasn't even entered office yet, and he's already being compared to Lincoln and Kennedy, with the expectation that he will do what FDR did and pull us out of this recession (depression). That's just some heavy stuff. As scary and exciting as this point in history is for our country, I am so glad to be 22 years old and able to comprehend what is going on.

This post had no other point but to release some of the thoughts that have been swirling around my head for the past two weeks.

media, obama
