HAPPY BIRTHDAY
spessartine! If I were a better girl I'd've made the 'Happy Birthday' sparkly and crackling and whatnot, but the html boggled me so I just contented myself in making it big. :) I love you, I love you, I love you! I hope you have (or had?) a wonderful day full of pretty gay men and heaps of expensive chocolate and cheap wine. I wanted to write

I thought I was the only one with a bizarre fascination for Heaven's Light/Hellfire. Heh, that song was so horribly inappropriate for a kid's movie, but so yummy and twisted. I took a few of the others too. Thanks! :)

Oh, god, I know, I remember watching it for the first time since I was nine and being shocked at the not-so-subtle...yeah...but it's such a wonderful movie, it's definitely one of my favourites. The sheer beauty of the music, the surprisingly good adaptation of the novel, and the goat - gah, I love the goat! - just makes it perfect.

I was about 14 when I saw it and was equally startled! Such a cool scene, though. :) I wonder if there is any Frollo/Esmeralda fanfiction around (movie or bookverse)? (Heh, almost wrote Frodo/Esmeralda - now there's some crack! ;) ) Not that I have a thing for creepy-sexy or anything *coughs*, but that would be cool. :)

Would you find me too strange if I said that Frollo is oddly sexy? And Jafar from Aladdin too?

~giggles~ I even like the inanimate sidekicks. The carpet in Aladdin? OMG teh cute!
He is. He really is. I am really, really, really glad that my taste for literary creepy guys does not extend to real life or I would so be doomed. Strangled like Desdemona for glancing at *coughs* JRM, say. ;)
Are you familiar with Cocciante's musical version of the Hunchback at all?

I've never actually seen a production of Cocciante's version, but I did hear the music awhile back and to be honest, I didn't really like it - not dramatic enough for me, I'm afraid. But, you know, I'd still see it if I had the chance, because - Victor Hugo on stage again! What can be better than that? Which reminds me - weren't there rumours of Disney's Hunchback coming to Broadway?

I hope you mean that in a nonromantic way, because Frollo/Esmeralda is doable, but as for, say, carpet/Aladdin, I'd have to think about the mechanics of that one...Er, yes, most definitely non-romantic ( ... )

But there's something so terribly tragic about Frollo (well, in the book, at least) that's strangely....attractive? Or appealing, that might be the word.
Oh, I vaguely remember liking 'Belle', I think, but the rest of the music didn't really catch my attention at all. Then again, I wasn't listening closely in the first place, so. I'll have to find the soundtrack again and give it a closer listen.
Wouldn't it be amazing, though? And I heard that they'd do it properly - as in, Esmeralda dies and Frollo's desire for her emphasized even more (even more!) so I don't think it'd be too popular for parents who come with their children expecting another Lion King or whatnot. But, eh, who cares, a hundred children may be scarred for life but I still want to see it. x)

I'll upload some of my favorite songs from the French version I have so you can see what you think. Keep an eye on my journal. ;) The English version is only a tape, unfortunately, although I do have a clip from "My Heart" somewhere, so I'll send that too if I can find it.

Really? OMGSQUEE! :) That was the one thing that really bothered me about the Disney version - it already wasn't truly a kid's movie, so why did they have to assume we wouldn't be able to handle the real ending? I mean, I know why, but dammit! I like the real ending. If they did the real thing... oh! :D ( ... )
