Ok....so I had my first day of classes today. Yay.
I also had my Orchestral Training Programme Ensemble Placement audition.
Better luck next time, eh?
They were screened, and I wasn't allowed to talk to the panel members behind- I had to speak to a chick in whispers as she told me things after they announced what I should play next etc. That was interesting for my first screened audition experience. Ofcourse, the people there were amazing. Oy.
They asked me for the Mozart Concerto 3rd Movement and stopped me after maybe 40 measures. Then they asked for Beethoven 8, Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream Scherzo (they stopped me in that), then they asked me for Scheherazade and then Stravinsky's Petrouchka- the first Cadenza in both. Petrouchka I bombed. Scheherazade was decent, but not good. Beethoven 8 was good mostly, except one part I remember was a little sketchy with the rhythm. MSND Scherzo I effed up because I played the wrong notes in one section- my articulation was fine, however. My rhythm was steady, as well I think. Perhaps except for that multiple trill section. My Mozart was ok. Could've been SO MUCH better. I play the Mozart well- I just was too intimidated. Next time I'll know a little bit more.
An artist diploma student who's freakin' 29 got into the 2nd round. As did two master's students and a 4th year and a 3rd year. I wanted it, but I was trying to be realistic. That means I won't be in the McGill Symphony Orchestra, and probably not in the Contemporary Music Ensemble either. I'm hoping for the 1st of the two wind symphonies, and a good chair in that as well. The thing that gets me is that I now have another audition for seating- and that's going to be sight reading. I hope they ask for a prepared piece, because then I'm screwed out of good seats if it's only sight reading. Man....I really hope I don't sit in a shitty chair in the bottom ensemble. Hell even a shitty chair in the 1st Wind Symphony. Shit.
